- So we are going to talk about communities…how what communities are being served in the above two missions?Who else are we serving?
- What does it mean to be a community member? What does it mean for us as librarians?Conferences, publications, embedded librarians, usability studies, friends of the library, outreachLibrarians and Faculty…the text says that we should get to know the faculty…understand their research goals, their needs, what does this mean? How do you see yourself interacting with the faculty community? Research…access, users…but what about the larger library research community? Do you think librarians should perform research, publish, etc? Why or Why not?How do we interact with the student community? How about the larger community? Where do we do outreach?Can you think of any others?
- The book focuses the last half of the chapter on info lit…how do you see that as different from traditional library instruction? Why is it so important to the library?What should we be teaching? How to use a database? Content specific information? Technology? How does this fit with the overall mission?
- So how can we use a learning community? What do they mean for libraries?The author discusses the professional aspects of online learning communities…how can these communities make a difference?How will virtual communities play into this? Do you know of any library virtual communities – (facebook, twitter)…how about virtual learning communities (Blackboard?, Moodle?, anything else?)
- What about MITx…how can libraries help?
