the D&D Building, they honored Stars of Design during the D&D’s Annual Fall
Market. Mica Ertegun was recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award; Juan
Pablo Molyneux received the Interior Design Award; James Givenchy received the
Jewelry Design Award; Architecture Award went to Hugh Newell Jacobson; the
Landscape Award to Tom Balsley; Sheila Metzner received the Photography Award

Two Mondays ago, The Carnegie Hall Notables hosted REVIVAL: Broadway’s
Next Act in Zankel Hall in the Carnegie Hall complex.
It was a panel discussion moderated by Actress Ana Gasteyer. Panelists included
Duncan Sheik, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Adam Shankman, Jerry Mitchell, and
Anthony Rapp. The discussion was intended to focus on the fresh approach that
composers have recently introduced to Broadway, attracting audiences through a new
range of media, from YouTube to MTV.

The event was attended by close to 500 guests and immediately following the panel
discussion, there was an afterparty at The Russian Team Room sponsored by Heavy
Water Vodka.
In addition to the discussion, some of the panelists performed songs from new
projects: Lin-Manuel Miranda sang “Delivery” recently debuted in the new
production of Stephen Schwartz’s 1978 musical, Working. Anthony Rapp performed
“Visits to You” from his one-man rock memoir, Without You; Duncan Sheik sang “I
Don’t Do Sadness” from his current Broadway musical Spring Awakening as well as
“A Purple Trail” from his upcoming production of The Nightingale.

Among those attending were Nellie Mckay, Annaleigh Ashford, Marissa Perry,

Two Fridays ago, one of New York City’s most elegant galas, the Soldiers’, Sailors’,
Marines’, Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club (SSMAC) honored the United States
Navy at its 12th Annual Military Ball, which is SSMAC’s principal fundraising
effort. More than 400 guests attended the black tie event at the Pierre.
Governor David Paterson was presented with a special plaque by SSMAC
Chairman Ivan Obolensky to honor his role with the New York National Guard and
the New York Guard.
This year’s Military Ball Grand Chairman was

Executive Officer of the Red Apple Group, Inc.
Military Ball Chairmen included Jacqueline Astor
Drexel, Robin D. Hubbard and Julia Irene
Kauffman. Master of Ceremonies for the evening
was the CW11’s senior correspondent, Marvin
Scott.
As part of the salute to the Navy, Chairman
Obolensky presented Chief of Naval Operations
Admiral Gary Roughead with the Distinguished
Military Leadership Award. Accepting the award
for Admiral Roughead was Vice Admiral Melvin
G. Williams, Jr. Former Secretary of the Navy the

The SSMAC Heroes Award, offered this year for
the first time, will be given to WWII Tuskegee

Airmen Roscoe Brown and George Watson.
The SSMAC Distinguished Media Achievement Award, presented each year to a
member of the media who has either served in the military or covered the media with
distinction, was given to CBS News Correspondent Kimberly Dozier, who was
seriously injured by a car bomb while covering the war in Iraq. Presenting Ms.
Dozier with her award was Bill Gallo, Daily News cartoonist and columnist and
recipient of last year’s Media Award.
Coast Guard Glee Club.
Alex Donner and his Orchestra provded the music for the evening. Proceeds from
the gala went to benefit SSMAC, www.ssmaclub.org, a non-profit organization that,
since 1919, has provided warm, friendly, and safe accommodations for more than two
and a half million men and women of the armed forces, as well as those of our
allies.

This week in New York: On Monday night over at the Hearst Tower in their North
Gallery, Cathie Black joined Town & Country Editor-in-Chief Pamela Fiori for the
launch of her new book “Stolen Moments: The Photographs of Ronny Jaques.”
The party also marked the opening of Hearst's gallery exhibition of the photography
of Ronny Jaques. A contemporary of Richard Avedon, Lillian Bassman and
Horst, Jaques' portfolio, much of which was shot and appeared in magazines
in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, consisted of couture fashion, travel reportage and
celebrity portraiture -- including many photographs of authors, musicians, actors,
fashion designers, playwrights and artists.
