2. WHY IS MEDICAL CARE IMPORTANT TO
ME?
My right is the right to medical care
It is important to me because if you have
medical care it can basically save your life!
3. KYTHE FOUNDATION
Kythe is a foundation that helps children who have different
diseases such as; leukemia, cancer ect.
In Kythe they also give them the right to play, and education
They help the kids to over come their fears of the hospital and
teach them that the hospital is a safe place.
4. VACCINES
Babies and children need to be vaccinated and immunized
regularly to prevent diseases and infections like measles and
polio-unfortunately in developing countries most people can’t
afford to get vaccinated.
Sadly over three million babies die each year from vaccine
preventable diseases
More than 34 million children are NOT immunized to prevent
diseases
(world watch/UNICEF)
5. DIFFERENT DISEASES
There are so many different diseases that can kill so many people
like:
Measles – is a very contagious disease caused by a virus
Leukemia – is a type of cancer in the blood or bones
Poliomyelitis- affects nerves and can lead to paralysis
Cancer-is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body
Malnutrition-is when a baby doesn’t have enough of the right food
for he/she to eat so their body becomes really skinny but their belly
becomes big.
Doctors and scientists are trying to find a cure for all of these
diseases and we hope they can!!!
(UNICEF, World Watch)
6. THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WHO DO
NOT HAVE MEDICAL CARE
In America over 54 million people don’t have good health care!-
and any hospital in America and many other countries will not give
the treatment to the people unless they have the money to pay for
it.
In the Ninth Ward there is a hospital with over 1,300 patient files
and about 95% of them don’t have the money to cover the cost…
11 million children under the age of five die because of
Malnutrition
Measles kill 10,000 Angolan children each year
More than one billion people all around the world do NOT have
access to medical care…
(UNICEF, A life like mine)
