In early 2008 the Brazilian government launched several measures against deforestation in the Amazon, including enforcement in 36 critical municipalities and prohibiting credit for rural properties non-compliant with environmental laws, lacking land title and having an area of more than 400 hectares in the Amazon biome. What has been the effect of those measures? Have the new policies worked? This presentation shows preliminary results of a study underway at Imazon to answer these questions. The results are promising and can help in revising the federal plan for preventing and combating deforestation.
