2. About the Database
• This comprehensive news collection is ideal for
exploring issues and events at the local, regional,
and national and level. Its diverse source types
include print and online-only newspapers, blogs,
newswires, journals, broadcast transcripts and
videos. Use it to explore a specific event or to
compare a wide variety of viewpoints on topics such
as politics, business, health, sports, cultural
activities and people. Content is easily searched
and sorted through an intuitive, map-based
interface.
3. Access
Visit www.balibrary.org and click on the link to databases.
Scroll down to “America’s Newspapers”. You can log in with your
Barrington library card if you are accessing the database from
outside the library.
4. Personalize
After logging in, you can set up your own personal account. Personal
Accounts allow repeat users to customize their experience by saving
articles. You don’t need a Personal Account to access any products.
5. Access News
The America’s News link provides local, regional and national news
coverage of business topics.. You can save articles if you have logged in
with your personal account
6. Search News
Quickly and easily customize your search with shortcut links provided.
In the example below, the query was limited to Chicago Area News with
the shortcut on the left-hand menu. Rows can be added or removed
and results can be sorted by relevance or date.
7. Filter Results
The previous sample search query returned 218 news items. These can be
filtered by date (year), location, source, and source type. Check the box
next to an article to save it in your personal account. Checking this box will
also give you the option to email, print, or export a citation for the item.
