Bassam Mansour at the Wilmington Islamic Center – USA<br />9/23/2011<br />PRIORITIES<br />السلام عليكم ولرحمة الله وبركاته <br />“As-salámu ‘alaikum wa rahmatul láhi wa barakátuh!” [SET & WAIT FOR ATHAAN!!]<br />الخطبة الأولى<br />FIRST KHUTBAH:<br />أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم، بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم<br />“A-úthu billáhi minash shaytánir rajeem. Bismilláhir rahmánir raheem”<br />الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ نَحْمَدُهُ وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ وَنَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شُرُورِ أَنْفُسِنَا وَمِنْ سَيِّئَاتِ أَعْمَالِنَا مَنْ يَهْدِهِ اللَّهُ فَلا مُضِلَّ لَهُ وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلا هَادِيَ لَهُ.<br />وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ.<br />Al hamdu lillahi nahmaduhu wanasta’eenahu, wanastagh-firuhu, wanatoobu ilayhi, wana’oothu Billaahi min shuroori an-fusinaa, wamin sayyi aati a’maalinaa. May- Yahdillahu fa huwal muhtad, wa may- yudlill falan tajidaa lahu waliyan murshida. Wa ash-hadu an Laa ilaaha ill-Alláh, wahdahoo laa shareeka lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhoo warasooluh”<br />All Praise is due to Alláh, We praise Him and we seek help from Him. We ask forgiveness from Him. We repent to Him; and we seek refuge in Him from our own evils and our own bad deeds. Anyone who is guided by Alláh, he is indeed guided; and anyone who has been left astray, will find no one to guide him. I bear witness that there is no god but Alláh, the Only One without any partner; and I bear witness that Muhammad, sws, is His servant, and His messenger.<br />﴿ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلاَّ وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ ﴾ [آل عمران:102].<br />Yaa Ay-yuhal-latheena ‘aamanut taqul-laaha, haqqa tuqaatihee wala tamu tun-na, il-la wa antum Muslimoon.”<br />O You who believe, – Fear Allah, as He should be feared, and die not except as Muslims. (Surat Al-Imraan) [3: 102]<br />﴿ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَقُولُوا قَوْلاً سَدِيداً * يُصْلِحْ لَكُمْ أَعْمَالَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَمَنْ يُطِعْ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزاً عَظِيماً ﴾ [الأحزاب: 70 و71]. <br />Yaa Ay-yuhal-latheena ‘aamanut taqul-laaha, wa qooloo qawlan sadeedaa. Yuslih-lakum a’maalakum wa yaghfir lakum thunoobakum, wamay yu-til-laaha warasoolah, faqad faaza fawzan atheemaa.”<br />O You who believe, – Be aware of Allah, and speak a straightforward word. He will forgive your sins and repair your deeds. And whoever takes Allah and His Prophet as a guide, has already achieved a mighty victory. (Surat Al-Ahzaab) [33: 70-71]<br />﴿يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمْ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَخَلَقَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنْهُمَا رِجَالاً كَثِيراً وَنِسَاءً وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ الَّذِي تَتَسَاءَلُونَ بِهِ وَالأَرْحَامَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيباً ﴾ [النساء:1].<br />4:1 yaa ay-yuhan naasut-taquu rab-bakumul-ladhiy khalaqakum min nafsiw waaHidatiw wa khalaqa minhaa zawjahaa wa bath-tha minhumaa rijaalan kathiyraw wa nisaa-aa* wat-taqul-laahal-ladhiy tasaa-aluuna bihii wal arHaam* in-nal-laaha kaana 'Alaykum raqiybaa<br />In the opening verse of Sura An-Nisaa’ (Chapter 4), Allah The Exalted says:<br />O mankind! Fear your Lord Who created you from a single soul and from it created its spouse and from them both has spread the multitude of men and women; fear Allah in Whose name you claim (your rights from one another) and be mindful of your blood relations; indeed Allah is always seeing you. لذا، انا ذاهب لأطلعكم على قصص لطيف 2 وتأمل في التعلم منهم -- أريد استخدام هذه القصص (2) وتقديم المشورة، والدروس بالنسبة لنا ، وبالطبع آمل أنها سوف تكون بمثابة تحذير مهم بالنسبة لنا للتعلم و تغيير دوراتنا وتأكد من تحديد الأولويات حقنا لإرضاء الله أولا وقبل كل شيء!<br />So, my dear Brothers & Sisters I am not here to teach nor I am in a position to do so! I just want to give you advise since our deen/religion is an advise as the Prophet (PBUH) told us “innama ad-deeno naseeha !” <br />Therefore, I am going to share with you 2 cute stories in hopes of learning from them – I want to use these 2 stories as advise, lessons for us and of course I hope that they will serve as an important warning for us to learn and change our courses and make sure to set our priorities right to please ALLAH first and foremost !!<br />القصة الأولى : إن جرة المايونيز والقهوةعندما تسير الأمور في حياتك تقريبا يبدو الكثير من التعامل معها ، عندما 24 ساعة في يوم واحد ليست كافية ، تذكر جرة المايونيز... والقهوة...وقفت أمام أستاذ الطبقة فلسفته وكان بعض العناصر في أمامه. عندما بدأ الدرس ، wordlessly ، انه التقط جرة المايونيز كبيرة جدا وفارغة وشرع لملء مع كرات الغولف.ثم طلب من الطلاب اذا كان جرة كاملة. واتفقوا على أنه كان عليه. وبالتالي فإن أستاذ التقط مربع من الحصى وسكب عليها في جرة. انه هز الجرة طفيفة. توالت الحصى في المساحات الفارغة بين كرات الجولف. ثم سأل الطلاب مرة اخرى اذا كان جرة كاملة. واتفقوا على أنه كان.الاستاذ المقبل التقطت لك مربع من الرمال وسكب عليه في جرة. بطبيعة الحال ، فإن الرمل يملأ كل شيء آخر. سأل مرة اخرى اذا كان جرة كاملة. ورد الطلاب مع بالإجماع quot;

الأباطرة الخمسة الجيدةquot;
، ويعتبر أيضا واحدا من الفلاسفة المتحمل الأكثر أهمية) وقال :quot;
السعادة لا تكمن في المناقشات الفكرية ، ولا في الثروة والشهرة ، ولا في الملذات الحسية، والشراهة. أين ، إذن ، هو العثور عليها؟ في تنفيذ الإجراءات التي تدعو للاستخبارات. أعرف الآن أن السعادة في نهاية المطاف يمكن أن تتغير وفقا لظروف مختلفة من الزمان والمكان، وأنه من المستحيل أن تصف ذلك ضمن حدود واضحة لتعريف دقيق. لا بد من القول، إذن ، أن الشخص الذكي يرى السعادة في أداء الأعمال البشرية المنافع. quot;
ونحن نقول أن السعادة Muslems في أداء الأعمال التي ترضي الله (الأول وقبل أي شيء آخر) ، وصالح الجنس البشري!<br />THE FIRST STORY: The Mayonnaise Jar and the Coffee When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar...and the coffee...A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous quot;
yes.quot;
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.quot;
Now,quot;
said the professor, as the laughter subsided, quot;
I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. <br />The golf balls are the important things, your God, family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. <br />The sand is everything else the small stuff.quot;
If you put the sand into the jar first,quot;
he continued, quot;
there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important. <br />Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. <br />Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.quot;
<br />One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.<br />The professor smiled. quot;
I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.quot;

فنظر الملك فإذا بزوجته الأولىوهي في حالة هزيلة ضعيفة مريضةبسبب إهمال زوجها لها فندم الملك على سوء رعايته لها في حياتهوقال :كان ينبغي لي أن أعتني بك أكثر من الباقينولو عاد بي الزمان لكنت أنت أكثر من أهتم به من زوجاتي الأربعة........في الحقيقة أحبائي الكرامكلنا لدينا 4 زوجاتالرابعةالجسد : مهما اعتنينا بأجسادنا وأشبعنا شهواتنافستتركنا الأجساد فورا عند الموتالثالثةالأموال والممتلكات : عند موتنا ستتركنا وتذهب لأ شخاص آخرينالثانيةالأهل والأصدقاء : مهما بلغت تضحياتهم لنا في حياتنافلا نتوقع منهم أكثر من إيصالنا للقبور عند موتناالأولىالعمل الصالح : ننشغل عن تغذيته والاعتناء بهعلى حساب شهواتنا وأموالنا وأصدقائنا مع أن اعمالناهي الوحيدة التي ستكون معنا في قبورنا ............ <br />يا ترى إذا تمثل عملك لك اليوم على هيئة إنسان .......كيف سيكون شكله وهيئته ؟؟؟...هزيل ضعيف مهمل ؟أم قوي مدرب معتنى به ؟<br />The Second Story: THE KING AND HIS FOUR (4) WIVES<br />Once upon a time there was a rich King who had four wives. <br />He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her to the finest of delicacies. He gave her nothing but the best. <br />He also loved the 3rd wife very much and was always showing her off to neighboring kingdoms. However, he feared that one day she would leave him for another. <br />He also loved his 2nd wife. She was his confident and was always kind, considerate and patient with him. Whenever the King faced a problem, he could confide in her, and she would help him get through the difficult times. <br />The King's 1st wife was a very loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom. However, he did not love the first wife. Although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her! <br />One day, the King fell ill and he knew his time was short. He thought of his luxurious life and wondered, quot;
I now have four wives with me, but when I die, I'll be all alone.quot;
<br />Thus, he asked the 4th wife, quot;
I have loved you the most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?quot;
quot;
No way!quot;
, replied the 4th wife, and she walked away without another word. Her answer cut like a sharp knife right into his heart. <br />The sad King then asked the 3rd wife, quot;
I have loved you all my life. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?quot;
quot;
No! quot;
, replied the 3rd wife. quot;
Life is too good! When you die, I'm going to remarry!quot;
His heart sank and turned cold. <br />He then asked the 2nd wife, quot;
I have always turned to you for help and you've always been there for me. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?quot;
quot;
I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time!quot;
, replied the 2nd wife. quot;
At the very most, I can only walk with you to your grave.quot;
Her answer struck him like a bolt of lightning, and the King was devastated. <br />Then a voice called out: quot;
I'll go with you. I'll follow you no matter where you go.quot;
The King looked up, and there was his first wife. She was very skinny as she suffered from malnutrition and neglect. Greatly grieved, the King said, quot;
I should have taken much better care of you when I had the chance!quot;
<br />In truth, we all have the 4 wives in our lives: <br />Our 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it will leave us when we die. <br />Our 3rd wife is our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, it will all go to others. <br />Our 2nd wife is our family and friends. No matter how much they have been there for us, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave. <br />And our 1st wife is our Soul. Often neglected in pursuit of wealth, power and pleasures of the world. However, our Soul is the only thing that will follow us wherever we go. Cultivate, strengthen and cherish it now, for it is the only part of us that will follow us to the throne of God and continue with us throughout Eternity.<br />*** When we are weak in one part of our body, we work on it by strengthening it. For example, if we do not have strong muscles in our shoulders, we engage in some form of exercise and strengthen those muscles. The problem with strengthening soul is that we are not aware of the type of “soul exercise” that are available out there. <br />There are many types of people in this life!!! <br />There are those who give more than they take. <br />There are those who consume more than they produce. <br />There are those who are born with bad souls and no amount of soul strengthening and cultivating is going to do them any good. The problem with those bad souls is that they do not see how fragile life is and soon or later they have to answer to their maker for the bad deeds that they have committed on this earthly world. I have known very few people with bad souls that somehow they were awaken and made drastic changes in their lives for the benefit of others. <br />The Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius (was Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 CE. He was the last of the quot;
Five Good Emperorsquot;
, and is also considered one of the most important Stoic philosophers.) said: <br />“Happiness lies not in intellectual debates, nor in wealth and fame, nor in gluttony and sensual pleasures. Where, then, it is found? In performing actions which call for intelligence. I now know that ultimate happiness can change according to the differing conditions of time and place and that is impossible to describe it within the clear boundaries of precise definition. One must say, therefore, that an intelligent person finds happiness in performing deeds benefit mankind.” And we Muslems say that happiness in performing deeds that Pleases ALLAH (first & before anything else) and benefit mankind!!!<br />حتى في الاختتام الإخوة والأخوات ، وأنصحك بما يلي :<br /> أيها الأخوة الكرام، حاسبوا أنفسكم قبل أن تحاسبوا، وزنوا أعمالكم قبل أن توزن عليكم، واعلموا أن ملك الموت قد تخطانا إلى غيرنا، وسيتخطى غيرنا إلينا، فلنتخذ حذرنا، الكيّس من دان نفسه، وعمل لما بعد الموت، والعاجز من أتبع نفسه هواها، وتمنى على الله الأماني، والحمد لله رب العالمين. <br />SO IN CLOSING Brothers and sisters, I ADVISE YOU OF THE FOLLOWING: <br />Dear Brothers, Hold yourselves accountable before the time comes then you will be held accountable, and weigh your deeds before they weighed on you, and know that the Angel of Death may surpass us and went to get others, and will surpass others to get us, let us take warning here and be careful, the successful one is the one who controlled his nafs/himself, and prepared for his after death (the Hereafter), and the helpless one is that who followed his desires, and wished Wish to God, praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.<br />Duaa’<br /> اللهم اهدنا فيمن هديت، وعافنا فيمن عافيت، وتولنا فيمن توليت، وبارك لنا فيما أعطيت، وقنا واصرف عنا شر ما قضيت، فإنك تقضي بالحق ولا يقضى عليك، وإنه لا يذل من واليت، ولا يعز من عاديت، تباركت ربنا وتعاليت، ولك الحمد على ما قضيت، <br />اللهم أصلح لنا ديننا الذي هو عصمة أمرنا، وأصلح لنا دنيانا التي فيها معاشنا، وأصلح لنا آخرتنا التي إليها مردنا، واجعل الحياة زاداً لنا من كل خير، واجعل الموت راحة لنا من كل شر، <br />اللهم لا تؤمنا مكرك، ولا تهتك عنا سترك، ولا تنسنا ذكرك،<br /> اللهم ارحم موتانا وموتى المسلمين .. واشفي مرضانا ومرضا المسلمين .. اللهم اغفر للمسلمين والمسلمات .. والمؤمنين والمؤمنات ... الأحياء منهم والأموات .. <br />وصلِّ اللهم على سيدنا محمد النبي الأمي، وعلى آله وصحبه وسلم.<br />والحمد لله رب العالمين <br />Brothers and sisters, to conclude our khutbah:<br />InnaAllaha, Yamuru bil adel, wal ihsaan, wa eetaa-i zil qurba; wa yanha anil fuhshaa-i, wal munkari walbaghi; ya-idzukhum lallakum tathak-karoon. (Sura 16:90),<br />“Surely Allah commands justice, good deeds and generosity to others and to relatives; and He forbids all shameful deeds, and injustice and rebellion: He instructs you, so that you may be reminded.”<br />Fadth kuroonee adth kurkum, wash kuroolee walaa tak furoon [2:152].<br />“and remember Me: I will remember you. Be grateful to Me, and do not reject faith.”<br />wala thikrul-Laahi akbar, Wal-Laahu ya’lamu maa tasna’oon.” [29:45]. <br />“and without doubt, Remembrance of Allah is the Greatest Thing in life, and Allah knows the deeds that you do.”<br />Ameen. WA Aqeemus salaah!<br />
