2. The Props - Costume Documentary
Debate
Is was argued amongst our media studies set that if
the use of props and costumes is purposeful in
documentaries as you are attempting to watch
unobtrusively.
I personally believe that they are of course
purposeful and that everything the director
chooses to include on screen is a choice
therefore making all objects and outfits costumes
and props, technically.
3. Props
School trays in a school
kitchen is to be expected
along with cutlery and the
food itself.
Cricket equipment and
hockey gear in the sporting
scenes.
4. Costuming
The head chef wearing a white chefs outfit (his
working clothes). Similarly, Amanda Darey, the
catering manager, is wearing her work outfit and
wears gloves when serving food. The two
catering managers were better dressed than the
cooks and general kitchen staff forming a clear
hierarchy within the kitchen staff.
Students wearing there school uniform conforming
to the specific media representation of the youth
in the education system.
Hockey and cricket players wearing their sports kit
to show them in action. Making the documentary
more relatable
5. Summary
To summaries, whilst we didn’t use pre prepared
props and costumes, as we were shooting a
documentary, inevitably what is included on
camera is subject to the film maker (s) choice
hence creating media representation.
