POROS PENGGERAK RODA/ AXLE SHAFT
Axle shaft atau poros penggerak roda adalah merupakan poros pemutar roda-roda
penggerak yang berfungsi meneruskan tenaga gerak dari differential ke roda-roda. Axle
shaft pada kendaraan dibedakan menjadi dua yakni front axle shaft (poros penggerak roda
depan) dan rear axle shaft (poros penggerak roda belakang). Pada kendaraan FF, front axle
shaft sebagai driving axle shaft, sedangkan pada kendaraan tipe FR, rear axle shaft sebagai
driving axle shaft. Pada kendaraan 4WD atau AWD, front axle shaft maupun rear axle shaft
sebagai driving axle shaft.
Poros Penggerak Roda Belakang/ Rear Axle Shaft
Roda belakang umumnya menumpu beban lebih berat daripada roda depan, sehingga
konstruksi poros penggerak rodanya juga relatif lebih kuat. Pemasangan poros akan
dipengaruhi oleh tipe/ jenis suspensi yang digunakan. Secara umum tipe suspensi yang
digunakan ada dua kelompok yaitu suspensi bebas (independent) dan suspensi kaku (rigid).
Pada tipe suspensi independent, jenis axle shaft yang digunakan umumnya adalah tipe
melayang (floating shaft type), dimana poros bebas dari menumpu beban dan bebas
bergerak mengikuti pergerakan roda akibat suspensi kendaraan.

Pada suspensi rigid pada umumnya menggunakan tipe poros memikul dimana axle shaft
diletakkan di dalam axle housing, yang dipasangkan berkaitan melalui bantalan.

Poros memikul terdiri dari 3 tipe, yaitu : full floating, three-quarter floating dan semi-
floating. Nama tipe poros tersebut mencerminkan kebebasan poros untuk tidak menyangga
beban kendaraan. Full floating berarti sepenuhnya poros tidak menyangga beban, three-

quarter floating berati ¾ beban kendaraan tidak ditumpu oleh poros (poros menyangga ¼
beban) sedangkan semi floating berarti poros hanya menumpu ½ beban.

Pada tipe ini bantalan-bantalan dipasangkan diantara haousing dan wheel hub, sedangkan
roda dipasangkan pada hub. Beban kendaraan sepenuhnya ditumpu oleh axle housing,
sedangkan poros roda tidak memikul beban, hanya berfungsi menggerakkan roda. Model
ini sangat bagus untuk kendaraan berbeban berat.

Pada tipe three-quarter floating, hanya dipasangkan sebuah bantalan di antara axle housing
dan wheel hub. Roda dipasangkan langsung pada poros roda. Hampir seluruh beban
ditumpu oleh housing. Gaya lateral (lateral force) baru akan bekerja pada poros/ axle bila
kendaraan membelok.

Tipe semi floating banyak dipakai pada kendaraan ringan. Hampir seluruh beban kendaraan
dipikul oleh axle shaft, demikian juga gaya lateral (lateral force) pada saat kendaraan
membelok. Bantalan dipasangkan diantara axle housing dan axle shaft, sedangkan roda
dipasangkan langsung pada axle shaft.
