6. PRODUCTION My college magazine was produced on Microsoft Publisher. My final magazine was produced all on Photoshop. VS
7. FONTS I used standard, basic fonts on my college magazine. The fonts I used were already downloaded onto the computer – for example Calibri - and all I had to do was select them and type. They were simple, block fonts which weren’t exciting or fun. However, on my final magazine, I used specialist fonts which I downloaded from Dafont.com. The fonts I downloaded especially were more interesting and varied than the ones featured on my college magazine. Furthermore, the fonts are more specialised in my chosen subject area of electronics and technology.
8. COLOUR SCHEME The colour scheme of my front cover of my final magazine is centred on the colours of the photograph. I have used burgundy along with the simple combination of black and white. These colour choices were pre-planned which can be found on my style sheet. Also, the colour scheme took inspiration from what other music magazines would use. On the other hand, the college magazine’s colour scheme was a very impulsive decision. I chose a colour that didn’t clash with the rest of the photograph and that would be visible. The pink was not thought out and was impetuous.
9. LAYOUT Cover lines on my actual magazine took reference from existing magazines and look professional. The cover lines on my college magazine are positioned in a place which is not conventional nor visually fitting. I made use of the ruler tool on Photoshop when making my final magazine front cover so that the cover lines are parallel to the image. I did not do this on my college magazine as it was rushed and I wasn’t creating it on Photoshop. Also, the contents page of my college magazine is extremely basic and looks very amateurish. There is not excitement in it at all; it just reads in a list. My final contents page, however, is more professional and varied.
10. PHOTOGRAPHY My final magazine’s photography style is more appropriate to my magazine. It has been thought out, planned, edited and adjusted. I took several pictures in order to get the correct ones for my desired page in contrast to my college magazine which I only took one picture for. The background for the pictures really contrast each other. My college magazine has a busy background which is visually disruptive. The background of my final magazine looks more professional and of a higher quality. Also, with the use of Photoshop, I have digitally manipulated the images so that the skin, eyes and background are flawless and suitable for a magazine.
11. WRITING STYLE I have used more colloquial language in my final magazine. This is because I have focused more on my audience and taken into account what is appropriate for them. My college magazine’s language was very minimal and not exciting at all. It was vague and boring, however it did fulfil its primary purpose to inform. More specialised lexis in the semantic field of music was used in my final magazine along with correct terminology that I expect my audience to fully understand.
