3. Michelangelo’s Moses This sculpture was originally meant to by places on Julius II tomb in St. Peter’s Basilica. It was instead placed in San Pietro in Vincoli, Rome. It took Michelangelo two years, from 1513- 1515 to sculpt this piece. The final piece stands at 235 cm, or 7.71 ft. tall.
4. The Sistin Chapel Michelango had the great honor of painting a mural for in the Sistin Chapel in the Vatican City. The original request was from Julius Ii for a painting of 12 apostles which took Michelangelo from 1508-1512 to paint. He was later commissioned by Pope Paul III to paint the ceiling of the Chapel. The final product had more then 300 fingures which included the story of the Creation, Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, The Great flood, and ancestors of Christ.
5. St. Peter’s Basilica Dome In 1546 Michelangelo was appointed architect of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City, Rome. He designed the great dome in the Basilica. The Church itself is the largest church in the world and hold up the largest dome in the world. The Dome is a very impressive 42 m in diameter and 138 m high.
6. Michelangelo did many other great works in his time, these were just a few of his great masterpieces. Many say that Michelangelo changed how art was and is created and viewed today. Thanks to this man’s passion of art we are able to enjoy fabulous art pieces.
