The document discusses different deployment modes for Storegrid backup software:
1. Single laptop/desktop deployment where the laptop backs up to an external hard drive.
2. Peer-to-peer deployment where multiple systems backup to each other over a network.
3. Client-server deployment where client systems backup to a centralized backup server.
The document provides step-by-step instructions for configuring Storegrid in each deployment mode. It also gives examples of how Storegrid could be deployed in small networks with 4 systems in peer-to-peer mode and 25 systems in client-server mode.
4. Deployment in single Laptop / Desktop You have a single Laptop. You want to take Data backup on External USB Hard Disk through StoreGrid ? How do you configure StoreGrid ?
5. Installation & Configuration Step 1 : install StoreGrid as a Windows service. Here define to start Storegrid service as Local system account . Step 2 : install as “Client and Server” and click next . Step 3 : By default StoreGrid takes the machine name as Identity and “Default Group” as Group name. Keep it as it is. Step 4 : Continue with the wizard and finish the installation. Step 5 : Change “StoreGrid Server’s Backup Storage Location as “G: and click next. (Here “G” is External HDD Drive) Done now you can create schedule for Backup from “ Backup ->Add Backup Schedule” option. Step 6 : Now configure Schedules as per requirement.
8. Planning for Peer to Peer Deployment Backup for previous Network Diagram: Following 4 systems connected in Network. Their data backup scenario is as below. NOTE: In Storegrid backup scenario the “machine name” should be unique. If any machine crashed then when the machine will be built again, for disaster recovery the machine name should be same as before . Machine Name Operating System Backup Role Storegrid Component User 1 WinXP This Systems will keep backup to “user 2 ” and store backup from “User3” Client & Server User 2 Win 2K3 This Systems will keep backup to “User 1 and store backup from “server” Client & Server User 3 Win2K This Systems will keep backup to “User 2 ” and store backup from “User 4” Client & Server Server WinXP This Systems will keep backup to “User 1” and store backup from “user 1” Client & Server
12. Following 25 systems connected in Network. Their data backup scenario is as below. NOTE: In StoreGrid backup scenario the “machine name” should be unique. If any machine crashed then when the machine will be built again, for disaster recovery the machine name should be same as before.
