2. What is Web ?
The World Wide Web
(abbreviated as WWW or
W3, commonly known as
the Web) is a system of
interlinked hypertext
documents that are
accessed via the
InternetInternet
3. What is Internet ?
Internet
The Internet is a global
system of interconnected
computer networks that
use the standard Internet
protocol suite (TCP/IP) to
link several billion devices
worldwide.

15. Wolfram Alpha is a computational
knowledge engine or answer engine
developed by Wolfram Research. It is an
online service that answers queries
directly by computing the answer from
externally sourced crated data, rather
than providing a list of documents or
web pages that might contain the
answer as a search engine might.

Curation : a range of activities

create/import, manage,
analyse, maintain, validate and
display a huge mount of data.

The curated data makes Alpha different from semantic search
engines, which index a large number of answers and then try to
match the question to one.

19. Wolfram Alpha is a Web 3.0,
Web 4.0 and it’s planning to
include Web 5.0
characteristics
- Wolfram Alpha can provide
robust query results based on
computational facts
- It is able to respond to
particularly-phrased natural-
language fact-based questions
such as "Where was Mary
Robinson born?"
- Or more complex questions
such as "How old was Queen
Elizabeth II in 1974?"
- And it calculate mathematical
queries as well like : "lim(x->0)
(sin x)/x"
20. Wolfram Alpha is written in 15 million lines of
Wolfram Language code and runs on more than
10,000 CPUs. The database currently includes
hundreds of datasets, such as "All Current and
Historical Weather".
One example of a live dataset that Wolfram Alpha
can use is the profile of a Facebook user, through
inputting the "facebook report" query. Alpha can
generate a "personal analytics" report containing
the age distribution of friends, the frequency of
words used in status updates and other detailed
information.
21. Wolfram Alpha is also used to power some
searches in the Microsoft Bing and
DuckDuckGo search engines. For factual
question answering, it is also queried by
Apple's Siri, Samsung's S Voice, as well as
Dexetra's speech recognition software for the
Android platform, Iris, and the voice control
software on BlackBerry 10.
