· Japanese hit American ships and military
 bases at 7:55 a.m.
· Battleship U.S.S. Arizona was hit by a bomb
 which hit the ammunition compartment and
 blew the ship apart

                                                                                      · December 7, 1941 - the Imperial
                                                                                       Japanese Navy launched a surprise
                                                                                       attack on Pearl Harbor on the island of
                                                                                       Oahu, Hawaii
                                                                                      · Army lieutenant who was in training
                                                                                       misread the radar signals; he thought that
                                                                                       the planes that showed up were the
                                                                                       American planes that were scheduled to
                                                                                       arrive back that day from CA, so he
                                                                                       didn't tell anyone about his sightings
                                                                                      · The Japanese had a close-by island that
                                                                                       closely resembled the shape and size of
                                                                                       Oahu, so they trained their attack on that

· 1,177 people died from the U.S.S. Arizona attack
 · 21 ships of the U.S. Pacific fleet were damaged
 · Killed 2,333 and wounded 1,139 Americans



  The day after the attack, December 8, 1941,
  President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war
  against Japan. He quoted that the attack on Pearl
  Harbor shall be remembered as a quot;day that shall
  live in infamyquot;.
