2. Front Cover This is the chosen image that I wanted to use for my
front cover. I liked this photo because it was taken
on a black background and my chosen background
colour for my magazine front page would also be black.
I also like the positioning of the models in this photo because
I knew after cropping it down to a mid shot photo, they would
fit in well with the text that would go around it.
The pose is chilled and relaxed and I wanted this pose so that
it would compliment the name of my magazine, ‘Chill’.
The clothing I asked the models to wear was just plain
grey or white tops as they were the only costumes
Visible in the front cover. However one had a logo on so
I photo shopped it out. I wanted these costumes because
They are young and relate well to the youthful target
audience
3. Contents As the main band and cover
story of the Magazine, this
photo is the largest on the
contents page, linked with a
page number anchored by the
page number description.
I chose this pose because its
fun and expresses what kind
of relationship the boys have
as a band.
The following three photo’s are much smaller as
they aren’t the key cover line, and are of all
different layouts. This photo is of a single girl artist
in monochrome which suggests her music is slower
and perhaps more relaxed R&B music.
I wanted her to have this facial expression because
she looks sad which adds a sort of ‘depth’ which
could be representing the genre of R&B music she
produces.
4. Contents The next photo is of a girl band who have very different facial
expressions to the first small photo which portrays the bands fun
personality also within their music. The costumes also compliment the
R&B genre.
I also inserted a background on Photoshop to add variety to the
content images. Other wise both of these would look very similar next
to each other.
This next photo is also a duo but it is a boy band instead and the
costumes are very different to the girls, as they are wearing suits
which I did to show their music is different to the other bands,
perhaps more serious.
I also like the way the black suits contrast against the bright white
background and lighting.
5. DPS 1
All of these photo’s are for the first
page of the double page spread. I
wanted the guys to look playful to
contrast against the title, ‘Time to get
serious?’ which adds humour as its
evident that they are far from It.
I decided to use the white back drop
for these photos so that when
extracting the images and placing
them on to the header strip, dark
parts of the photos wouldn’t be lost
within a black background when
placed on the white strip e.g. The hair.
I chose to use a strip along
the top of the page because
It looked similar to some of
the other R&B magazines I
researched such as Vibe
magzine.
6. DPS 2
Because my first double page spread
was quite consumed by photos and
pull out quotes I decided to make a
second double page. On here I had
four more photos. One was
significantly larger and the other three
were placed beneath them so they
were all placed in line.
I used a guitar as a prop in 3 of the
photos as it is an instrument that one
of the models plays.
These photos are all also playful and
fun like the ones on the first spread.
Yet also are action shots of the boys at
‘work’- singing and playing on the
guitar.
I wanted the model to have this confused facial
expression to add humour to the photo and page as he
is the person who sings and is clueless on how to play
the guitar.
