The Center on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE) was founded in 1993 at the University of Washington to measure public schools against educating all children well and address shortcomings of current institutions. CRPE staffs professors, researchers and others to cultivate new ideas, reframe questions, analyze options and connect analysis to multidisciplinary policy approaches at all levels, funded privately by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. One project is the School Finance Redesign Project, created at the Gates Foundation's request to help officials understand how K-12 funding works and identify allocation options to support student learning.
