WALT VT Milcom partnered with SPAWAR to design/procure/fabricate/test a custom made INMARSAT and STU-3 system capable of providing secure teletype and voice capability to the USS Harford. This emergent tasking was the result of a collision between the USS Hartford and the USS New Orleans while operating in the Straight of Hormuz. In 4 days, VT Milcom completed the task and shipped an operationally ready system to the USS Hartford in Bahrain.

Two contracts, of five years’ duration each. One contract will go back out to competitive tender at the end of its current five-year period (2012/2013); the other has an optional five-year extension period from 2013. The third contract is for 25 years, with no options for extension. We own four of these vessels and lease them back to the MoD for the duration of the contract period (five years). We are the prime contractor to the MoD for these contracts, with full responsibility for delivery of the service. Where required, we employ specialist sub-contractors for equipment maintenance and repair and a range of dockyards to provide facilities where the ships can be maintained, repaired and docked.
CHRIS The Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA). VT is part of the AirTanker consortium which will provide the RAF with a new air refuelling and air transportation capability. VT will provide facilities integration and management, elements of training and technical services. The total FSTA programme is valued by the MOD at £13bn and the contact will be for 27 years. UKMFTS is a MOD project to select a training systems partner for the entire tri-service military flying training infrastructure. The project seeks to put a programme in place for all three services that takes people from selection and grading to the point of delivering trained personnel into the Operational Conversion Units in a much more controlled and integrated manner. It will replace today’s fragmented training for the RAF, Army Air Corps and RN pilots and rear crews.
