3. Non-living characteristics Do not use energy. Do not move by themselves. Can grow and develop (for example crystals can grow, one type of soil can develop into another). Do not reproduce. Respond to the environment, (soil gets soft under the rain), but can’t adapt to it (can’t make a choice).
