Shaggy Mane
• Grows in grass, soil, or wood chips
• Grows in spring, summer, fall
• Cap is a white cylinder with shaggy, upturned, brownish scales
• The gills are whitish
• Entire mushroom fragile and crumbles easily
• The cap and gills gradually dissolves into a black, inky fluid, leaving only the
standing stalk
• 4 in. to 6 in. tall, sometimes larger
• Best when picked before the caps begin to turn black and inky
• Sauté in butter and season with nutmeg or garlic
• Good in scrambled eggs or chicken dishes
• Picked it young and eaten the same day

cutting them and not planting them after
• The New York Shining Rose is Endangered because the demand has
made many people want them, so many go out and find, cut the roses
• 18-24 in.(45-60 cm.) 24-36 in. (60-90 cm)
• Medium pink
• Very Fragrant
• bogs, swamps, wet thickets
• June to September
• Many couples buy the roses for each other, for anniversaries and
Valentines Day
