FEATURES OF POLAND CLIMATE

MATEUSZ ROGOWSKI
Szkoła Podstawowa nr 11
CLIMATE OF POLAND
Poland is in the transitional
climate zone between the
temperate oceanic climate in the
west and temperate continental
climate in the east. Masses of
different clash over the area
of Poland. It is the result of the
position in the centre of Europe
and the latitudinal
geographical regions.
MAS AIR INFLOW TO POLISH
The inflow of air mass to the
Polish depends on the distribution
of atmospheric pressure centers
over Europe. Decisive importance
here are the masses of polar sea air
bringing year-round rainfall. They
also cause cooling in summer and
warming in winter. Maps of air
flows into Polish in January and
July represent the proportion of
the individual mass. It confirms
the dominance of winds from the
west.

TEMPERATURE IN POLAND
Air temperature distribution in Poland depends on three factors: the
influx of air masses, altitude and distance from the Baltic Sea.
Moist air from the Atlantic Ocean brings a warming in winter and
cooling in summer. We can see it especially in the temperature maps
in January - the farther in the east the colder. The map of annual
average temperatures shows the eastern Poland is colder than the
western. Continental air masses influence on it. They often "hook" of
our „eastern wall”. The result of it are significant decreases of
temperature in winter (even below -30 ° C). There are also the
highest annual amplitude, which is typical for areas that are within
the continental air.

ATMOSPHERIC PRECIPITATION IN POLAND
The average annual rainfalls in Poland oscillates between 600 mm.
If we compare the first cool half of the rain maps we can see the
advantage of warm summer rain. This applies the whole of Poland,
including the mountains. It is typical of the whole moderate area.
We can often notice cooling of warm moist air in the summer, for
example, when the cold front is passing. This leads to a rapid
condensation of water vapor and cloud formation. In winter is
quite difficult to cool the already cold air, so that precipitation
occurs less frequently – e.g. when the warm front is passing.

CLIMATIC REGIONS IN POLAND
Poland as a whole lies in a temperate climate with warm
transition. This means that we are in the zone of influence
of climate factors in both marine (from the west) and land
(to the east). The advantage of one of them has certain
effects. For example, the major impact of continental
climate can cause the dry hot summer or cold winter .The
rainy summer or mild winter are the result of sea climate .
In spite of that in the southern part of the country there is
the mountain climate. The effects of it are the reduced
temperature and increased rainfalls.
POLAND - REGIONS OF CLIMATE
The map of main climatic regions
shows contractual Polish division
into zones of influence of the
prevailing different types of
climates. It is worth noticing that
the zone where the influences of
sea and land clash - which runs
from the north to south - divided
our country into two almost equal
parts. This is why every year we
have such a large variability of the
weather every year .
