Athens and U.S. Government

Athens Government
Athens is considered the beginning of democracy because they did not have
kings, pharaohs, or emperors. It was divided into small groups called dems
that were grouped together into 10 tribes. Every tribe had the same amount
of members in it. The form of government was called a demokratia, which
was ruled by the people.Every ten days the people would come together and
talk about laws, and vote on new laws. Slaves, women, and metics couldn't
vote because they were not considered citizens.
Athens government is an early form of
democracy developed in the 5th century B.C.
Ancient Athens is considered the beginning
of democracy
Athens is a direct democracy
In Athens, in order for direct democracy to
work, the community must be small enough for
all eligible people to participate
Athens is split into 3 groups; the assembly,
the courts, and the council
Athens rotate among the officials to be the
president
Any Athenian male over the age of 30 can
become president
Athenian women cannot vote
In Athens it is not as important or treasured
to be president as the u.s.
Athens government and legislative bodies come
together and the people speak to them and then
they resolve the issue immediately
In Athens the council and the courts held

the main source of power
The Athens courts were staffed by different
men above the age of 30
U.S Government
The Civil participation refers to a condition in
which every citizens has the means to actively
engage in to the public sphere including political
process
The Civil society is empowered, protected,
and accountable; the media are present,
professional, and independent of Government
influence, equal access.
Through these means, the population can also
participate in politics, provide on a check on the
Government and influence the government policy.
Active citizenship were individual has a
direct input into the the policy formation
process and those with direct experience of
services or new social needs are given a voice
to determine policy and practice.
Eligibility to vote in the U.S is determine by
both federal and state law.
Currently, only citizens can vote in the u.s.
election
When the country was discovered, in most
states, only white men with property were
allowed to vote(Freed African Americans could
vote in four states).
