closer together in a spirit of cooperation to
solve difficult education problems, improve
academic achievement, provide support for
teachers and administrators, and bring
parents into the school-based decision-
making process.”
4. SchoolCouncils shall provide advice,
recommendations, and assistance and
represent the community of parents and
business.
5. Members of the School Council will
serve for a term of two years.
The council will have a minimum of
seven members.
Parents must make up the majority
of the council and at least two of
them being from the business
community.
A parent member must serve as the
chair.

7. The electing body for parent members shall
consist of all parents and guardians eligible
to serve as a parent member.
The electing body for the teacher members
shall consist of all certified personnel eligible
to serve as a teacher member.
8. Nominations are accepted by the Principal
from within the electing body prior to the
voting meeting.
Nominations must be submitted in writing
(email, fax, letter are all acceptable) by
8/30 Deadline for all parent nominations.
One vote shall take place with the highest
vote recipient(s) being elected to serve on
the school council for a 2-year term.
You must be present to vote.
A person does not have to be present at the
time of the vote to be elected to the council.

at the first meeting following the election of
the School Council Members.

14. Maintain a school-wide perspective on issues
Participate in council meetings
Participate in information and training programs
Act as a link between the school council and the
community
Encourage the participation of parents and
others within the school community
Work to improve student achievement
Provide advice and recommendations to the
school principal and local board of education
15. According to Article IV of the Etowah School Council bylaws (see below), members must be
in attendance for at least five meetings.
“After two absences by a certified staff member of the school council, that member will be
contacted by the principal to ascertain his/her level of commitment going forward. After two
absences by a parent, student, or business partner representative of the school council, that
member will be contacted by the chair of the council to ascertain their level of commitment
going forward. While the nature of the absences will be considered in determining a member’s
ability and commitment to ongoing council participation, meeting attendance is imperative to
the work of the council. If any member of the council accumulates three absences in a single
school-year, that member will be removed from the roster. The principal will appoint a
replacement for a certified staff member and student member. A parent representative will be
replaced with the parent who received the highest number of votes during that year’s election,
but who was not elected to the council. Business partner representatives will be replaced by a
business partner appointed by the principal and the council chair.” Etowah School Council

Members are expected to promote a spirit of cooperation and support between the Etowah
Administration, student body and all other stakeholders.

16. To promote effective communication and
foster team-work, the Student Advisory
Board and PTSA at EHS will be represented at
each School Council Meeting.
Student & PTSA representation is not
required by the State Legislature in regards
to council membership but necessary to
overall effective school leadership.
The School Council, PTSA, SAB, and all
stakeholders will work together in graduating
life-long learners and productive community
& global citizens.
17. You can vote for multiple nominees on one ballot.
Only one ballot can be cast per person on 9/4 from 6:15-8:30.
You must be present to vote.
Nominees do not have to be present to win.
Winners will be notified by the Principal by 9/7.
