So if you've already know how to get your mind to a peak state for performance using this process, how
could there be any more skills? What would be left to do if your already in a peak state?
There is one thing that remains.

Surrendering To Your Abilities
1. Surrendering To Your Abilities
If you've been following along with my newsletter you probably understand or
have a good idea of how to get your mind to a state that is effective for optimal
performance.

So if you've already know how to get your mind to a peak state for performance
using this process, how
could there be any more skills? What would be left to do if your already in a peak
state?
There is one thing that remains.
And that is......
Come back to the present moment.
Because it's in the present where your mind performs the best. Clearly, thinking
about the past or the future isn't going to help you perform in the moment. This
seems obvious but often times athletes are so worried about what might happen
in the future or worried about what happened "last time" that they take
themselves right out of a peak state.
In my experience the athletes that produce the most consistent results are the
ones who are "unconscious" when they are performing.
What I mean by unconscious is that, there mind is quiet. There aren't any
thoughts or analysis going through their minds. Having said that, it's helpful to
analyze what you did wrong when you have some downtime in your sport like
sitting on the bench, intermissions etc.
2. However, when you are in the heat of the battle your mind needs to be quiet in
order to be in a peak state. When your mind is quiet you're not questioning your
abilities to make a specific play, you're not thinking about what might happen
down the road, you're in a state of total trust and certainty within yourself.
I like to call it SURRENDERING.
When you completely surrender to your abilities your unconscious mind knows
exactly what to do. It knows which muscles to fire at the exact moment and it
knows what frequency to fire them in.
We often don't stop to think just how amazing this process is and the power our
unconscious mind holds.
For example, when is the last time you told your heart to take a beat? Or you told
your stomach to digest what you eat?
The unconscious takes care of all of this for you and does a perfect job. It's way
more powerful than your conscious mind will ever be.
As an athlete you can rely upon your unconscious by coming back to the present
moment as I've mentioned already.
How do we do this?
One great and easy way to come back to the present is to focus on your
breathing. Your breathing exists only in the present. It does not exist in the future
or in the past.
Take a few moments right now and practice so that you can make the distinction.
Just simply put your focus on your breathing and see how it feels.
So in summary.....
If your struggling with the mental state in your game get back to a peak state by:
- Becoming aware of your "zone" (posture, self-talk and concentration patterns)
3. - Then let go of your thoughts and surrender to the moment. Surrender to your
abilities and if you need to focus on your breathing.
