Hello,
My name is Brian Poturnak, and I recently moved to Canada. While starting my new life in Canada I realized that I may have to follow Canadian spelling. I thought this would be a great time to give my non-native Canadians some tips and tricks to know what the correct spelling of a word is. Canadian English is highly influenced by British spelling. However, there are words that use American spelling. Read these tips and tricks from yours truly Brian Poturnak.
6. -RE VS. -ER NOUN ENDINGS
The British spelling ( –re) is preferred over
the American spelling (-er).
Ex: theatre, centre.
7. -ISE VS. -IZE VERB ENDINGS (AND
THEIR DERIVED NOUN FORMS)
Canadian usage prefers American spelling
(-ize) over the British spelling (-ise).
Ex: civilize, organize
8. -OUR VS. -OR NOUN ENDINGS
Canadian usage prefers the British spelling
in this case – our endings
Ex: colour, flavour
9. – CE VS. -SE NOUN ENDINGS
