Skills-based
Successful use of printed material is a product of two
classes of skills:
word-level reading skills (recognizing words)
higher level literacy skills (drawing correct inferences)

Adult Education Programs, MCC
Provide ESL, GED, and technical training at sites across
McLennan County
3,000 adult participants annually
“Drop Back Into School”, Waco ISD
Provides GED and continuing education classes for
adults seeking to complete their education
160 adult participants during Summer of 2012
5. People tend to isolate themselves from issues
Not being “active” citizens
Every citizen is a member of the community
Citizens need to work and share with members of the
community to increase success of community
6. Awareness needs to be raised
So more citizens will participate in helping with adult
literacy
Government needs to provide illiterate adults receiving
financial assistance with information about classes
More funding needs to be provided to MCC’s Adult
Education Programs so that it can reach more adults
