Curiosity is a rover that was launched by NASA in 2011 to explore and analyze the surface of Mars. It landed inside Gale Crater on Mars in August 2012 and has been active ever since, exceeding its planned mission duration. Curiosity has helped scientists learn that parts of Mars could have supported microbial life in the ancient past and is continuing its mission of investigating whether Mars ever had an environment able to support microbial life.
