Video game-based cybersecurity training is proposed as an alternative to traditional college to address the growing cybersecurity skills shortage. The program would use video games and simulations to teach certification courses in a flexible evening/weekend format. It aims to serve unemployed and underemployed adults to obtain higher-paying cybersecurity jobs. An initial pilot graduated candidates who obtained industry certifications and several obtained jobs. However, $1.72 million is requested to fund operations, marketing, and further development over the next two years to achieve the goal of enrolling 1,000 students by mid-2021.
