2. Live Oaks
The live oak is called
the live oak because it
stays alive through out
the winter. The
southern live oak is
actually the state tree
of Georgia. These
trees are very
common in Georgia
and are spread out
over a distance of the
United States.
There's actually a live oak in my
hometown that is 329 years old, its
name is “The Big Oak”
3. Cherokee Rose
The Cherokee rose is a
very pretty flower. It
has white petals and a
yellow center. This is
also the state flower
because of the
Cherokee tribe living
here and There is an
urban legend that
these flowers were
made from the trail of
tears.
4. Oak-Leaf Hydrangea
The cool thing about
this plant is that it can
survive all four
seasons, and even
droughts. This plant
grows really well in
Georgia because it
grows naturally under
the shade of many
trees such as the live
oak.
5. Green Tree Frog
The green tree frog is
a very common animal
in Georgia. The are
everywhere from west
Virginia all the way to
Florida. They are
nocturnal meaning
they only come out at
night. These little
frogs can be found
easily after rain.
6. Gopher Tortoise
The gopher tortoise is
the state reptile of
Georgia. This tortoise
can grow up to a foot
long and weigh 25
pounds. This turtle
burrows its self in dry
areas in states all
around Georgia. This
animal is important to
Georgia because it is
one of the 8 state
animals
7. Brown Thrasher
The brown thrasher is
important because it
is the state bird. This
bird only lives in
Georgia and Texas.
The brown thrasher is
usually brown with a
white stomach. These
birds are different
from others because
they tend to stay and
make nests near the
ground.
8. Right Whale
These monstrous
animals can grow up
to 18 m. The Right
Whale is also a state
animal. They have
rough patches on their
heads that make them
easily identifiable.
These whales also like
staying near the coast
unlike most other
whales.
9. Manganese
Manganese is an
important chemical
element. It is used in
making stainless steel
and many other
things. It is common in
many other minerals.
This element has an
atomic number of
twenty five.
10. Chattahoochee River
This main water way
affects Georgia
because it supplies a
big amount of running
water. It forms at the
Alabama-Georgia
border. The river is
originally formed from
a spring in the blue
ridge mountains.
