  2. TGMC started in India in 2004 and now reaches > 10K students a year Challenges take place in locations across the world
  3. In 2012, TGMC will be coming to the US for the first time
  4. The challenge is open to any student, whether an undergrad or graduate
  5. from any discipline
  6. Who form small teams
  7. And compete with other teams
  8. To solve real-world problems posed by IBM and our business partners
  9. For the chance to win prizes and internships
  10. Participation is open to schools in the 2011 SPC2Y tour including Fordham, Pace, San Jose State, Notre Dame, Duke and more
  11. The theme for the US in Spring 2012 is ‘Get Social. Do Business’
  12. The students look at an IBM business partner The dotted line here representing the company firewall
  13. They look at new techniques for finding and attracting customers
  14. Like social media marketing
  15. They look at how businesses can develop deeper relationships with customers
  16. Through social customer relationship management
  17. And how knowledge can be shared and stored within the enterprise
  18. Through what’s commonly referred to as internal- or social collaboration
  19. And the important role of social analytics in underpinning the whole system
  20. ‘ Social’ is the name of the game
  21. We’re talking about social business
  22. What are the characteristics of a social business?
  23. It’s a business that’s engaged: Connecting people – whether customers, partners or employees – to drive innovation
  24. It’s transparent: Removing unnecessary boundaries inside and outside the organization
  25. It’s nimble: Leveraging networks to speed up business, gain real-time insight and make quicker and better decisions
  26. What do students have to do in the challenge?
  27. In the first phase, students audit the current social business strategy of the company
  28. In phase 2, each team builds a prototype social business application using the developerWorks social network
  29. And integrates external social components
  30. The company evaluates the prototype
  31. How do students participate and when does the contest run?
  32. Using the developerWorks platform, students register online
  33. Access resources and reading materials through the media library
  34. Register for webinars where they can learn from experts
  35. Ask questions and communicate with IBM and participating businesses
  36. What is happening when? In Fall 2011 we’re running a Field test with 20 teams from SJSU And planning the program launch for Spring 2012
  37. In early 2012, TGMC Get Social. Do Business. Will be launched in the US Culminating in prizes and internships for top teams
