Marquette University’s National Sports Law Institute It’s a one of a kind institute Mission Statement: “to be the leading national educational and research institute for the study of legal, ethical and business issues affecting amateur and professional sports from an academic and practical perspective” The director of the institute is Professor Mitten The sport law courses available are very extensive and rigorous and the school focuses highly on student internships The classes concentrate on learning about “antitrust, labor, intellectual property, federal disability discrimination laws, and on developing contract negotiation, business planning, and transactional skills”

History In 1908, there were two law schools in the area Milwaukee Law School which was more-established Milwaukee University Law School which was fairly new with financial problems Marquette took on exclusive ownership of both schools in that year during September deciding to name the new addition Marquette University College of Law. Once is started to become established, in 1923 the college's name transformed to the now Marquette University Law School. Finally in 1989, the National Sports Law Institute united with Marquette’s Sports Law program and made it was it is today
