New Student Orientation 11 Week Graduate Programs MBA MBA - FP MPPA MSCSMSEcon MSIST
Agenda Overview of Reference Guide General Program Requirements Probation Program Completion Academic Dishonesty Blackboard / Web Advisor Waitlists Email Course Evaluations Parking Permits & ID Cards
Graduate Reference Guide Intended for use throughout your studies at CLU University Information Educational objectives of the University, Academic policies, Quick facts, etc. Provides information about the campus and offices General office information (office hours, location, etc) Office function Campus map Informs about what resources are available to students Fitness Center, Media Services, Career Services, Printing Services, etc. University rules and regulations Program specific information
General Program Requirements Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher (B average) Must receive a C or better in a class for it to count towards degree completion Classes in which a C- or lower is received must be re-taken Grade received in first attempt of class will remain on transcripts but will not be factored into the GPA Grades received in subsequent attempts of a class will fully replaced the first attempt in the calculation of the GPA
Academic Probation If GPA slips below 3.0, students will be placed on Academic Probation What happens when you are placed on Academic Probation? Receive a letter from the Provost Hold on student account requiring a meeting with the program director before registering for additional classes Students have two terms after being placed on Academic Probation to recover their GPA to 3.0 or higher If unable to raise GPA to acceptable levels after two terms, the student will be disqualified from further study at the University
Program Completion In order to graduate, students must submit an Application for Graduate Degree form to the Registrar’s Office This should be done two terms before you complete your program It is on this form that you will say how your name should appear on your diploma and where you would like your diploma sent You will NOT receive a diploma if you do not submit this form
Academic Dishonesty “Any behavior or act that implies an intent to make someone believe what is not true” Plagiarism	- Unethical computer use Cheating - Etc. Facilitating any of the above acts is also considered Academic Dishonesty University requires instructors to report all counts of academic dishonesty, regardless of severity, to be placed in the students file in the Provost office SafeAssign, TurnItIn.com, etc.
Academic Dishonesty Just don’t do it!
Blackboard “One stop shop” for student resources Web Advisor	- Email Library services	- Program communities Etc. Some instructors utilize Blackboard to offer an electronic classroom for students during the term. Students can upload assignments, take quizzes, participate in discussion boards, etc. Only students enrolled in the class have access to this material. Waitlisted students must contact the instructor for any material they will need until they can officially add the class.
Web Advisor Used to manage student data: Register for classes View class schedule Academic planning Program evaluation View and pay tuition Financial aid Grades Enrollment verification request Address change
Waitlists When a class has reached is full capacity, students are given the option of adding their name to a “waitlist” In order to be added to the course, waitlisted students must attend class on the first night of the course and ask the instructor to sign an add slip Signed add slips must be submitted to the Registrar’s office before the last day to add a class in order to be enrolled in the course
Waitlists If space becomes available in the class before the beginning of the term, the first student on the waitlist is given “permission” to add themselves to the class. If they do not do so within 3 days they are dropped from the waitlist Students with “permission” to add a class will receive an email from the Registrar’s office notifying them of their 3 day time limit Instructors are asked to add students to a class in the order in which they are on the waitlist It is entirely up to the instructor whether or not they add students
Email Every students is given a CLU email address It is extremely important that you check this email on a regular basis This is the only email address that CLU offices will use to communicate with you. These notifications can include but are not limited to: Information about your student account (Business Office) Registration information (Registrar’s Office) Program deficiencies (Registrar’s Office) Academic probation (Program Office) Course information (Instructors)
Email Email can be forwarded to any email address by going to www.callutheran.edu/foward Please note that while you will receive all of your CLU emails if you choose to have them fowarded, some emails sent from personal email addresses (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc.) get “stuck” in the CLU spam filters Best practice is to check CLU email regularly using Blackboard and send any emails related to your studies at CLU through this same account
Course Evaluations Each term all students are asked to complete evaluations for each of their classes Evaluations are completed online during the final two weeks of the term The evaluation form asks you to rate matters concerning the course format, course materials and instructor
Course Evaluations All evaluations are anonymous Instructors are not given their evaluations until they have submitted all of their grades Yes… we really do look at them! Provost Dean of the School of Business Program Director Instructor Most instructors will take students comments and suggestions into consideration when preparing for future classes
Parking Permits Parking permits are available through the Welcome Center and are free of charge Students are required to have a parking permit to park on campus Students can request a parking permit for as many cars as they have Security will issue tickets if you don’t have a parking permit or if you are parked in a space not allocated for “commuter” parking
Parking Permits Parking tickets will place a hold on your student account and you will not be able to register for new classes or drop current classes until they are paid A parking ticket WILL prevent you from graduating if you don’t pay it No parking permit is not needed for the Woodland Hills or Oxnard campuses A map of parking areas is included in the Reference Guide
ID Cards Student ID cards can be obtained at the Welcome Center An ID card is needed gain entry to the Library as well as the Fitness Center ID cards get great discounts at movie theaters!
