6. Two Modes of Action
First: A bleacher
― Inhibits the 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) enzyme in plants
― HPPD is key to the production of a plant’s protective pigments
― By preventing pigment production, plant chlorophyll is destroyed by the sun’s
ultraviolet rays
Second: The inhibition of the plant’s acetolactate synthase enzyme
― Prevents weeds from producing three essential branch-chain amino acids
― These amino acids are building blocks for normal growth and development

grass and broadleaf weed control
An application of Capreno corn herbicide in combination with atrazine
at 0.5 lb (Ai/A) increases:
― Speed of control

18. Adjuvant Requirements
• Crop Oil Concentrate
– Use Crop Oil Concentrate (COC) at 1 gallon per
100 gallons of water (1% v/v), with a minimum of
1.25 pt/A. Should contain at least 80% Crop Oil and
10%+ emulsifier
– High Surfactant Oil Concentrates (HSOC) may be
substituted for COC
– The use of adjuvants such as non-ionic surfactants
or refined vegetable oils will result in unacceptable
or erratic weed control
– Do not use Methylated Seed Oil (MSO)

19. Adjuvant Requirements
When tankmixed with glyphosate
− The addition of a glyphosate-compatible oil-based surfactant
(such as High Surfactant Oils) is recommended to optimize weed
control
− The addition of a glyphosate-compatible surfactant is required
with tankmixtures of unloaded glyphosate formulations or when
using less than full rates of loaded glyphosate

Notes de l'éditeur
Capreno corn herbicide provides the longest-lasting residual of any post for an amazing end-of-season clean. It ’s multiple modes of action offers control of over 65 weeds, including weeds resistant to glyphosate, PPO, ALS, dicamba and triazine chemistries. Use Capreno alone or in combination with tankmix partners such as glyphosate, Liberty and atrazine. It can also be applied to Roundup Ready, LibertyLink or conventional corn.
With its novel chemistry, Capreno offers full-spectrum postemergence control of fall panicum, foxtails, woolly cupgrass, waterhemp, ragweeds and Palmer Amaranth, as well as glyphosate-, PPO-, ALS-, dicamba- and triazine-resistant weeds. Capreno delivers excellent burndown with strong residual- to-canopy with the flexibility to be used as a total one pass solution.
Capreno quickly eliminates weed competition in the field by introducing a novel chemistry with multiple modes of action. Growers now have a powerful option to break the weed-resistance cycle combined with an effective safener. Capreno also offers protection for varying weather conditions with true rainfastness in only 1 hour.
As this photograph illustrates, the two active ingredients in Capreno provide outstanding weed control while being safe for field corn, seed corn and corn grown for silage.
The first mode of action found in Capreno is commonly known as a bleacher. It inhibits the HPPD enzyme in plants, which is key to the production of protective pigments and the development of chloroplasts in plant tissues. By inhibiting pigment and chloroplast biosynthesis, emerging plant tissue is bleached to white or pale yellow and ultimately dies. The second mode of action prevents the production of three essential branch-chain amino acids that would otherwise serve as building blocks for a plant ’s growth and development.
The active ingredients found in Capreno provide effective control of over 65 grass and broadleaf weeds including but not limited to: ragweeds, lambsquarters, waterhemp, fall panicum, woolly cupgrass, giant and yellow foxtail, shattercane and crabgrass. This photograph shows the effectiveness of Capreno on large lambsquarters when applied at 3 fl oz/A with 1 qt of COC and 1.5 lb AMS.
Resistance management is critical. With the spread of herbicide resistant weed species, the need for a broad-spectrum herbicide is clear. The two modes of action in Capreno make it especially important to growers as weed populations resistant to triazine, dicamba, glyphosate, PPO and ALS herbicides continue to spread.
Not only is Capreno a valuable tool in managing resistant and tolerant weed populations, it also helps maintain the viability of other herbicide programs, giving corn growers a safe, full-spectrum grass and broadleaf alternative.
The low use rate of Capreno at 3 fl oz/A makes it extremely convenient to use, which means there ’s less product to handle, it’s easier to ship, takes less room to store and requires fewer jugs. When used with Liberty herbicide, Capreno is labeled for an application rate of 3 fl oz/A. Capreno is formulated as a suspension concentrate with just 1 gallon capable of treating 42 acres of corn at the 3 fl oz/A rate.
As this chart illustrates, Capreno offers a broad range of selective, postemergence broadleaf weed control in corn.
As this chart illustrates, Capreno along with the recommended adjuvant system, effectively controls the listed grass weeds.
The combination of Capreno and glyphosate provides control of weeds such a Kochia, ragweed or woolly cupgrass that may be missed or only partially controlled by Halex GT.
Capreno, at 3 fl oz/A can be used alone for full grass and broadleaf control. The addition of atrazine at a minimum of 0.5 lbs of active ingredient per acre, will improve the speed, spectrum and consistency of control. However, do not use atrazine if corn is greater than 12 inches tall.
When combined with glyphosate, Capreno provides alternative modes of action on grass and broadleaf weeds and reduces the risk of glyphosate resistance development. For optimum control glyphosate should be used at a half to full rate depending on weed height and pressure.
Capreno, at 3 fl oz/A in a tankmix with Liberty herbicide, enhances control of large, stressed or otherwise difficult-to-control weeds. Additionally, Capreno provides in-season residual weed control with Liberty. The combination of Liberty and Capreno herbicides contains three modes of action for improved weed resistance management.
Capreno, applied alone, requires an adjuvant and a nitrogen fertilizer source for optimum control. A nitrogen fertilizer source such as urea ammonium nitrate at 1.5 qt/A or a spray grade ammonium sulfate at a rate of 8.5 lbs/100 gal also needs to be added.
Use Crop Oil Concentrate (COC) at 1 gallon per 100 gallons of water (1% v/v), with a minimum of 1.25 pt/A. COC should contain at least 80 percent Crop Oil and 10 percent emulsifier or greater. The use of adjuvants, such as non-ionic surfactants or refined vegetable oils, will result in unacceptable or erratic weed control. Do not use Methylated Seed Oil.
When tankmixing Capreno with glyphosate, it is recommended to add a oil-based glyphosate-compatible surfactant (such as High Surfactant Oils) to optimize weed control. However, a glyphosate-compatible surfactant is required with tankmixes of unloaded glyphosate formulations or when using less than full rates of loaded glyphosate. If using a fully-loaded glyphosate at full labeled rates (glyphosate with a surfactant) do not add COC or MSO
Capreno allows for the use of either High Surfactant Oil concentrate and Nitrogen or Crop Oil and Nitrogen, allowing for maximum herbicide performance.
Capreno penetrates target weeds, moves quickly to the site of control and is rainfast in just 1 hour after application. Capreno takes out tough weeds faster than leading competitors and is less likely to be washed off by sudden rain showers. Quick control and rapid rainfastness are important considerations as growers manage more acres of corn and soybeans.
As this illustration represents, Capreno ensures excellent safety to rotational crops, such as soybeans, which can be planted in as little as 10 months after a Capreno application. This ensures maximum crop flexibility for growers.
This illustration showcases many of the product characteristics that make Capreno so desirable, such as excellent grass and broadleaf control, powerful residual and low volumes of usage required.

Capreno combines two active ingredients for broad-spectrum control of over 65 weeds.
