2. WHAT IS IT?
• LSD or lysergic acid diethylamide is a powerful
hallucinogenic which can be found in the ergot
fungus that grows on rye.
• It is most commonly called “acid”
• One of the most potent mood-changing chemicals
• Other common street names are:
“Dots” “Golden Dragon” “Heavenly Blue” “Loony
toons”

• Hallucinogen
• Primarily oral administration, but can be inhaled,
injected, and on top of the skin, it is applied through
• small tablets (“microdots”)
• capsules or gelatin squares (“window panes”)
• It is added to absorbent paper
• occasionally comes in liquid forms
A trip usually lasts 12 hours
4. PSYCHOLOGICAL AFFECTS
• Hallucinations
• Increased color
perception
• Altered mental state,
• Thought disorders,
• Temporary psychosis,
• Delusions
• Body image changes,
• Impaired depth, time and
space perceptions.
• Users may feel several
emotions at once or
swing rapidly from one
emotion to another.
• “Bad trips” may consist
of severe, terrifying
thoughts and feelings,
fear of losing control,
and despair.
5. • Flashbacks (random flashes of a past drug
experiences) occur suddenly. They cause significant
distress or impairment in social or occupational
functioning
• LSD is not considered an addictive drug since it
does not produce compulsive drug-seeking
behavior, however, LSD does produce tolerance.
7. HISTORY
• LSD was first synthesized in 1938 by chemist, Albert
Hoffman
• The Hallucinogen effects weren’t documented until
1943
• It became extremely popular in the 60’s
• Use decline in the 80’s then became popular in the
late 90’s again while at clubs or “raves”
