Good afternoon, for those of you that don’t know me, I’m Cat, Head of words at Cat Creative Media. Today’s presentation is an overview of Social Media, and how it can become a valuable marketing tool and lead generator for your business. It should last around 20 minutes, leaving time for questions at the end. Before we go any further, how many of you have are familiar with Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook? Do you have an account? Do you use it?
So we’ll be looking at Social Media in general, and I’ll be telling you of my experiences and how I made it work for my business. There are many different platforms out there but we’ll just focus on the more popular ones; Twitter, Face book, Linkedin. We’ll also look at blogging and article marketing.
The internet has profoundly transformed the way people learn about and shop for products. Ten years ago companies reached their target audience through print advertising, trade shows, telemarketing and traditional marketing methods. The first place todays buyer looks is the internet; search engines, blogging sites and social media sites. To remain competitive, businesses websites need to be found by consumers that are already searching for the products and services that you sell. What Social Media is most definetely not is a quick fix solution. It takes time to generate conversations and interaction. I’ve been looking after Jason since December and he started seeing the effects at the beginning of February.
Some statistics, I’ve become slightly obsessed with stats and facts and figures, much to the amusement of my family and friends! I have been known to randomly quote statistics at the most inconvenient times! For example – did you know that if Facebook were a country it would be the 3 rd most populated place in the world?!
So what do you do with it exactly? This is a screen grab of my Twitter home page (not my legs!) The box underneath “What’s happening?” is where you put your message and include any links – to your website or blog or maybe to an interesting article that relates to your industry. There are many different platforms that you can view your activity; Tweetdeck, Hootsuite, Twitterific. I’ve done a list of useful links and tips which you can get from me at the end.
Blogging and article marketing are also vital tools for increasing search engine rankings. Blogs are a way of showing that you are an expert in your field. By far the most popular and read blogs will be ‘How-to’ articles. Short punchy blogs with bullet points and easy to read text. Article marketing is a brilliant way of increasing your popularity with the search engines. They’re a longer piece than a blog but still informative and leave the reader feeling that they’ve learnt something about your product or service.
So how does this all translate to you? I joined Twitter just over 2 years ago, I immediately saw the value in it for business so I spent the next 18 months testing and measuring the return on what literally has little or no cost other than my time.
But when I combined all these functions and sent out consistent messages across all channels the amount of unique views to my website tripled. To convert that into an enquiry or sale meant that the ‘call to action’ message on the website had to be compelling enough to make them get in touch.
