2. • The 30 Hour Famine is a World Vision event in 21
countries.
• It started in 1971 when 17 year old Ruth Roberts
and 14 friends staged an event in a church to see
what it was like to be hungry and raise money and
awareness for children suffering during a famine.
Introduction
3. What is 30 Hour Famine?
• For 30 hours, participants must abstain from eating food,
and drinking.
• Games, fund raisers, and other events may also take place
to help teach and educate the participants and others
about world hunger all over the world.
• It is also a time for education and awareness of world
hunger, and an understanding of how people go without
food for long periods of time.
4. How is hunger affecting people
• Every year 15 million children die of hunger
• About 25,000 people die every day of hunger
• People living in poor, undeveloped countries do not
have supply of food and clean water
• This causes people to die due to hunger
5. Aims
• Encourage people to donate money to help the less
fortunate people in others parts of the world.
• To be able to provide clean water to households in
poor countries.
• Supply meals for people living in poverty.
