1. New Ways of Learning: What the Professionals Say
From the Learning and Skills Group Webinar, 31st May, 2012
With CERTPOINT Systems™ and Charles Jennings
3. the extended enterprise describes the
community of participants involved with
provisioning a set of service offerings
Often referred to as a ‘supply chain’
or a ‘value chain’

7. Beyond Organisational Walls
Few organisations operate in
isolation
Learning across the extended
enterprise creates impact
customers, suppliers, partners
and distributors
sharing experiences, expertise
and learning resources
Direct focus on business value
7
8. What challenges for learning professionals do these
changes bring?
What new ways of learning and working are you
seeing?
9. Our challenge is integrating the ease of access to
several platforms.
Steven Goodwin
I'm seeing a shift to 'just in time' learning - remove
obstacles and make it available rapidly.
Cheryl Daubney
10. We're seeing at Virgin Media a real focus on social
within and without the organisation.
Casson McRae
Users are confused about where to turn.
Dave Pearson
11. Audience identification and training needs are much
more complicated these days. We rely on such a wide
range of external suppliers that deciding who is in/out
scope for training takes significant time & effort.
Iain Clements
Working across organisations creates a challenge of
letting the right people in and keeping the wider
world away from our intellectual property and
resources. I'm not sure this is necessary though, could
actually sell us more by opening up.
Emma Lowe
12. We're implementing a platform across the whole org,
which allows everyone to work flexibly and
collaboratively online... Social Media is beginning to
have a huge impact on the way we work!... Exciting
times!
Stu Bailey
Traditional training organisatons will disappear.
Edwin Bleumink
13. More just-in time; more sharing, less control, where
to store and share (behind firewall, outside?)
Julian Staddon
Seeing a generational shift - younger generation
expects integrated social learning.
Steven Goodwin
14. Lots of debate in my organization about how much
proprietary info to make available.
Chris Veilleux
Lots of orgs not allowing use of social media is a
challenge.
Emma Lowe
15. Companies want adaptive platforms that can be
configured not customised to change when their
business changes.
William Kennedy
People are expecting online resources to be free!
(used to YouTube and Wikipedia) - difficult when you
have to generate revenue...!
Cheryl Daubney
16. BYOD is not a problem with the right MDM (multiple
device management). We produce JIT for multi-
platform, MDM takes care of distribution and security.
Stephen Hodges
We're trying to drag suppliers into adopting 'tutor'
roles in collaborative environments to help with
implementation of learning.
Stephen Hodges
17. Stephen, you're right that orgs must have both
business-led and HR-led learning infrastructure. The
problem is that currently we typically have very little
business-led learning infrastructure.
Don Taylor
Am trying to move away from 'traditional' LMS and
look for one that supports multi-media 'Channels' and
subscriptions as well as looking at our end to end
process.
Cheryl Daubney
18. How do you measure the return on Social Learning?
19. User/validated content balance is crucial - we employ
Guru roles to intervene as necessary - either
correcting or promoting user found content.
Stephen Hodges
Key will be to fairly implement 'reward' system into
social learning method, some sense of transparent
payback for contributing.
Simon Rae
20. I agree reward is a key to changing how we work and
learn in this way.
Casson McRae
I think the payback for contributing is becoming
known in the org as someone who is capable and
employs their knowledge and experience to help
others and the org achieve their objectives.
Stephen Hodges
21. Bad LMS? Build a user friendly front end. Talk SCORM
to get the best out of the LMS and talk everyday.
Stephen Hodges
Having a bad LMS really is a nightmare. Believe me!
David Lefever
