Find and Seek How do we support the management, description, discovery and use of educational resources, such as those being created by the OER programme, without mandating large amounts of metadata? Are the days of heavy weight metadata standards and application profiles over? Can we develop new strategies for resource description and discovery?
Find and Seek Is It Time for a Moratorium on Metadata? Dick C.A. Bulterman,  IEEE MultiMedia, vol. 11, no. 4, pp. 10-17, October/December, 2004. “ Creating metadata for text has gone from tedious to insignificant.” “ For nontext data - such as video, images, audio, and so on - direct mining is difficult, but exactly at the point that metadata might be useful, manual creation simply doesn't get done”
Find and Seek Forms must die Erik Duval, 2005, 2006, 2007. . . http://www.slideshare.net/erik.duval/automatic-metadata-generation “ Librarian metadata doesn't scale” metadata generation is a barrier to content release. Can get results from “content and context” that are as good as those from human-generated metadata.
Challenge How do we make sure that the content being released (e.g. by the UK OER programme) can be managed as a national resource.  - coherent collections by subject - managed to meet institutional objectives - provide benefits targeted at key audiences
