What is a Social Network (“Web 2.0”, “Professional Network”)?
   A set of online tools that enable users to connect and communicate with each other.
   (Tools such as blogs, forums, directory, mini-sites, profile, wikis, RSS, bookmarks, knowledge base,
   groups, communities, events, calendar, chat, podcasts, webinars, polls, surveys etc)
   With a social network, content comes from everyone and shared with everyone.


Why is Social Network important?
   According to experts and research studies on consumer demands – in the future all the websites will have
   a social component to it.
   Direct communication with customers leads to ideas and suggestions for new and better products/services.
   It translates into increased customership, higher revenues, marketing and improved products/services.
   The success of your social networkinh strategy will depend on active and continuous participation.

1. Mission and Vision
   What is your vision (i.e.: what do you want to be? How would you like to be seen? What is your
   future/desired state) for creating a social network?
   Is your vision in alignment with your mission (i.e., your purpose as an organization; reason for being; why
   you exist) as is relates to social network?
   What is your primary purpose for having an online community?
   How does creating an online community support your mission/business strategy?

2. Target Users and Segments
   Who is your intended audience? (customers, non-customers, public)
   What are their demographics, numbers, attributes?
   Of your intended audience, who are the important stakeholders?

   What are the most important needs, as expressed by your customers, which a social network would
   address? Do a survey.
   What needs are your customers saying are currently not being fulfilled by your organization?
   What options and alternatives do your customers have if they don’t turn to you?

   What do you know about/what is the nature of the learning, knowledge and tasks that the community will
   steward?

   How will you be able to measure the value of a social network investment?

   Do you have the capacity (staff, volunteer effort, customers) to deliver on the social network investment?
   Implementation strategy – Phased approach to roll-out the various features and tools.
