Goal of event: To inspire and equip young Changemakers with the skills to run a
sustainable social enterprise
Date of event: October 24-30, 2012
Location: First Pacific Leadership Academy, Antipolo City
Country: Philippines
Expected Number of Attendees: 50
Why choose this event?
This event is the most suitable for young Filipinos because the social
enterprise industry in the Philippines and in the world is booming and is being
perceived as the new business model of the century. Not only that, the desire
to use business as a tool for social change has never been this relevant to our
societies. However, there are only few programs or conferences in the
Philippines that inspire and equip young changemakers to be social
entrepreneurs. The I Am A ChangeMaker Ideation Camp aims to be that
avenue for young Changemakers to expose themselves in the world of social
entrepreneurship.
How will you activate
the youth’s potential?
The social enterprise summit begins
with inspiring the youth with a line-
up of speakers who had become the
most successful social
entrepreneurs in the Philippines.
They will be exposed to different
topics regarding social innovation
and social enterprise. Next, they will
be asked to group themselves or
work as individuals and think of
innovative ideas that address social
problems. The top 5 teams will win
a 100,000 peso grant and a year-
long social business mentorship
from leading social entrepreneurs in
the Philippines.
What is the added
value?
The added value of this summit is the
creation of a positive ecosystem which
inspires young Changemakers to pursue
their social enterprise projects, giving
start-up grants that would jumpstart
their ideas while linking them to
experienced practitioners as well.
 Innovative and Impactful Lectures and
inspirational stories empower the youth to
think about creative ways to solve societal
problems. It empowered to use their creative
potential and see the boundless opportunities.
 The Php 100,000 seed-capital won by the
top 5 teams will empower them in fully
implementing their social business plans. The
participating youth are asked what to do with
the seed-money and they are given the
freedom to think as social innovators.
 Collaborative effort from various teams
lessen the competitive air and instead fosters
team-work in helping each other develop their
social business ideas and polishing their
presentation pitch.

Top Social Enterprise Teams
The ragpet project provides uniquely designed, recycled,
collectible and functional novelty and gift items that are
more valued with the stories of real people that they carry.
Made by the women inmates of Naga City Jail, the ragpet
project aims to empower them by giving skills training, job
opportunities, guidance in financial savings, and
reconnection with their families.
7 Heaven is a brand which offers convenient beverages –
such as tea, herbal juices and coffee – made from local
herbs and medicinal plants to health-conscious professionals
and thereby creates alternative livelihood for those
communities residing in the resettlement areas at the
countryside.
Not everyone can take time off to do long-term volunteering. However, with the
social reawakening of many Filipinos, more and more busy people are looking
for ways on how they can contribute to sustainable change. Juan2help.org
provides an online platform (via its website and Apple application), which makes
use of the limited time but multiple skills and unlimited passion of people to
help NGOs and communities in development-related tasks.
Social Enterprise Trainers
PASSIONATE about teaching and poverty alleviation, Edwin Salonga
and Vincent Rapisura, both 34, sought a way to share their talents as
educators and knowledge as businessmen. They established Social
Enterprises Development Partnerships, Inc. (SEDPI) to reach out and
provide training and financing to microfinance institutions (MFIs) and
disadvantaged individuals. More than just a joint business venture,
SEDPI is an affirmation of their belief that, through effective
partnership, education and entrepreneurship, social change can be
achieved.
Phil Tulba has a wide experience of social enterprises at various stages
of development from idea and concept stage through to start-up,
growth and replication. His approach and style is facilitative,
challenging and collegiate – working in partnership to challenge
assumptions, test new ideas and grow together.
Most Filipino youth lack:
 Skills in setting up and managing a business
 Skills in developing their enterprising ideas
 Skills in finding opportunities to jumpstart and fund their
microenterprises
 Knowledge in financial literacy
This can issues and problems can be solved by organizing
opportunities/ events/ workshops that will:
 Sharpen their entrepreneurship skills by teaching them ethical ways
of running social enterprise
 Creating a collaborative ecosystem where social enterprises don’t
COMPETE but COOPERATE with each other to address various social
concerns
 Provide adequate seed-capital to finance their businesses
Testimonials
“The I Am A Changemaker Summit really exposed me to the world of social
entrepreneurship and empowered me by teaching and forming
me to become one!” - Francis
“There are a few moments in your life that you can say were distinct turning points.
My participation in this camp was clearly that for me. Somewhere in between the
breakout sessions and our visit to the GK Enchanted Farm I realized that making a
difference is something I want to do fulltime. And having a large group of amazing
extraordinary individuals alongside you, who have the same passion
and drive - it's infectious. Thank you Changemakers !”- Richard
“The event had a really great impact on me! Filipino youth today should have more
opportunities like this where they are able to discover their inner social
entrepreneurs in making change in society!” - Laurence
