3. Introduction
Food security
Food security exists when all the people have access to
enough food that is affordable, safe, culturally acceptable, that
meets specific dietary needs and food preferences to get an
active and healthy life style.
Food insecurity occurs when the above condition fails.
Effects of food insecurity
The world's population will be 9 billion and counting in
2050,How can we ensure food security for the ever growing
demands?
4. Drivers of food insecurity
International Drivers
• World food prices
• World trade rules
• Climate change
• Biofuels
• Political Neglect
Local Drivers
• Poverty
• Land and Gender
• Conflict
• Environmental Degradation
5. Existing solution
Focuses on
• Low input farming
• Developing cultivation skills
• Creating national food reserves
• Industrial Agriculture
• Biotechnology and GM crops
• Land grabbing
• Supply and demand
yet over 925 million go starving..the
resources and technology we have is
sufficient to feed the world, but it
isn't working! We have to reach out to
the people
6. Idea/Solution (old wine in new bottle)
Human resources put to the best use!
The idea is to create a World Wide Food Security Network (WFSN)
to discuss issues and implement solutions for food insecurity that
exists all over the world. How different is this from other
organisations such as FAO? Well this organisation has to reach out
to the local people, so we add this into the already existing local
governance systems and then all of them could be integrated to
form a network across the nation.
7. This new system will take care of
Better irrigation facilities,
Scientific method of farming available locally,
Proper storage of food products,
Local warning systems.
Training program for farmers .
Malnutrition problem could be tackled with regular
reports being sent from every one of the villages to
the headquarters every month.
These are just some of the things that could be done
at the grass root level.
This whole system can be made a part of FAO and will
create more employment opportunities as well as fight
food insecurity.
Getting locals involved would bring about immense
benefits.
8. Model
Basic structure of our organization.
We are dividing the regions based on the geographic and
demographic conditions of the places.
The divisional head quarters monitors the food security
condition prevailing in the region.
While the sub centers will get the locals working as teams.
This solution can be carried out initially in any country as a
test project.
Example : We can train farmers by having collaboration with
Agricultural universities present in the country.
This model can be changed to suit country’s needs
