Sablefish Canada is partnering with the Ka:'yu:'k't'h'/Che:k:tles7et'h' First Nation to develop a sustainable sablefish aquaculture operation in Kyuquot Sound, BC. The partnership will provide financial and employment opportunities for the First Nation community while developing an environmentally-friendly sablefish farming business. Sablefish is well-suited for aquaculture in BC waters and does not face the same risks of disease and environmental impacts as other aquaculture species like salmon. The partnership aims to triple sablefish production by 2014 and involve the First Nation as a full production partner, building economic opportunities from an existing natural resource.
