4. WHAT IS THRILLER?
Thriller is a genre that suspense, tension and excitement as its main elements
to engage with the audience. Thrillers stimulate the viewer's moods, giving
them a high level of anticipation, surprise, anxiety and/or terror.
A thriller provides the sudden rush of emotions, excitement, and exhilaration
that drive the narrative. It keeps the audience on the "edge of their seats", as
the plot builds towards a climax. Plot twists and cliff-hangers are used a lot in
this genre. A thriller is usually a villain-driven plot, whereby he or she presents
obstacles that the protagonist must overcome.
5. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
HORROR AND THRILLER?
Thriller and horror are very similar to one another. Thriller focusses on
physiological storylines that have a mystery behind them, thrillers are able to
engage more with the audience as they are (on some level) relatable. As
thrillers have a storyline that can be about a miserable marriage that turns ugly
and then there is a murder, which is just an example. But audiences are able to
engage as it’s a sense of reality, turned ugly. Where as horrors, are more about
just building the audiences fear level to the highest, they use blood, scary
faces, surprises, gore, torture and many other things to create a disgusting
scene that some viewers may not be able to look at. For example – ‘Saw.’

Above is a link to the first silent thriller film. The first thriller film was made
by Alfred Hitchcock and was the third of his silent films that he had
produced. This thriller was called ‘The Lodger’ and was produced in 1926.
After this his next thriller was in 1929 and this was notable for being his and
Britain's first sound film.
7. FILM COMPANIES
There is not a whole film production company dedicated to making thrillers
like there is for horrors, as for horrors we have hammer film productions but
for thrillers there is multiple companies that produce them. For example
‘warner brothers’ was the studio that produced inception.
