video making has been used in
modern day videos today.
1920 – Oskar Fischinger
animated films with
‘visual music’.
1923-1924- Lee De Forest
made musical short film.
1964 – The Beatles had
international fame by
starring in a first feature
film called A Hard Day’s
Night, Directed by
Richard Lester.
David Bowie, through his style
and dress in his videos allowed
more of a freedom when it
came to costume for Music
Videos and Music Artists in
general. E.g. John I am only
Dancing
1967 – Another film called
Strawberry Fields Forever. The
Beatles did all the music
sequences for the films and
used them to promote their
albums.
1966- Monochrome clip for Bob
Dylan’s ‘Subterranean Homesick
Blues’. He used cue cards and
they have been seen in other
clips since.
1952 – First UK’s singles
chart was released.
1970 – David Bowie – Mick
Rock had lost out on so much
money and he did not realise
he could have gained money
from video rights, from the
music videos he made with
such people such as David
Bowie.
1980 – VH1 was launched by
MTV and also the term
‘Music Video’ came into use.
1989 – Chris Issak – in
his video ‘Wicked
Games’ he allowed
sexual content in a
classy way, showing
more of a way to
attract the audience.
1999- The Verb.
