A device that enables individuals to work away from home and still be in touch with employees & consumers/customers. It is estimated to have a consumer market of about 1.8 – 3 billion subscribers.

3. Smart phone’s and Education With 45% of adolescents aged 12-17 possessing Smartphone's, this has made it more of a fashion and a social dependency. This has also resulted in students being distracted in class due to their need to answer a call or stream the web(e.g. Facebook or twitter). In some cases, e.g. in Australia, this has lead to cyber bullying and suicide.

4. Smartphone and Productivity A research conducted in the US found that on average teens spend 7hrs on media entertainment via smart phone's. Most symptoms associated with this are the build up of anxiety, distraction, sleep deprivation and repetitive Strain Injury(RSI) . A survey by Nielsen shows that 60% of apps download on smart phone’s are games, while productivity apps at 26%.

5. Smartphone and Workspace As a result of working away from home this adds costs to companies that allow there employee’s to work overtime. During important meetings , top level managers are to glued constantly to their smart phone’s. This shows disrespect & lack of interest of the matter at hand, the habit is also contagious.

6. Smartphone and Society Smartphone’s have become more of a norm, with reliant of joining social networks. In 2001, a worldwide survey showed that 3300 people under the age 45, 80% of them sms mostly. As micro-cultures arise from smartphone syndrome, social & cultural values & norms change.

7. Smartphone and Society If an individual discontinued using their smartphones, they are prone to feel vulnerable and unstable. As Technological advancement continues, it will be hard to draw a line where IT communication ends and when human interaction begins.
