3. Calendar development
To develop the 2012-13 calendar, we worked with and
sought feedback from
• Principals (via principal meetings)
• 600+ teachers (via the Viva Project)
• Full School Day Advisory Committee, which includes
parents, education experts, principals, elected
officials, community and faith leaders
• Parents (via focus groups)

4. Changes from 2011-12
Changes to both Track R and Track E schools include:
• 10 additional days of student attendance for a total of 180 days
• More five-day weeks from 20 or 22 full weeks to 29 full weeks
• Conversion of report card pick-up days to attendance days
• Students are dismissed 3 hours early
• Report card pick-up occurs for 5.5 hours after students are dismissed
• Repositioning PD and Teacher Institute days to better serve teachers
• 5 PD days at the beginning of the year to prep for the new year
• 1 TI day at the end of each quarter for data review and planning
• Reducing holidays from ten to eight, changing Columbus and Pulaski Days from holidays
to student attendance days
Changes to Track E schools include:
• Reducing spring intercession from two to one week
Note: Start and end times stay basically the same

CTU issues: Reduced time for report card pick-up (incorrect – same amount of time as this year) No PD days in the year (incorrect – 4 Teacher Institute days, 1 at the end of each quarter) School begins with 9 uninterrupted weeks of school (correct, 5-day weeks improve student attendance, get students into the swing of schools, and eases childcare concerns for parents)
Specific features of the Track R calendar include: The school year will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, and end on Monday, June 17, 2013. Both days are full days for students.Schools will be closed for the following breaks:Winter break: Closed from Dec. 24, 2012, to Jan. 4, 2013Spring break: Closed from April 1, 2013, to April 5, 2013
Specific features of the Track E calendar include:The school year will begin on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, and end on Monday, June 17, 2013. Both days are full days of school for students.Placement of vacation breaks (intercessions) in the Track E calendar will now fall at the end of academic quarters. Fall break (intercession): Closed from Oct. 15, 2012, to Oct. 26, 2012Winter break (intercession): Closed from Dec. 17, 2012, to Jan. 4, 2013Spring break (intercession): Closed from April 1, 2013, to April 5, 2013 (Note: Spring intercession is one week shorter than in past years)
