1. Question Four
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
2. Genre Research
Prezi:
For this task of producing a teaser trailer, poster and magazine cover
of a film we have made media technology is a big part of the process.
While constructing our products we first had to research into our
chosen genre, for my group we decided to produce something of the
horror/thriller genre.
Here is what the layout to the opening page of Prezi looks like. It is
an easy way of producing powerpoints with a variety of different
formats to choose from.
Here is a picture of the prezi powerpoint that I
made, it was all about the thriller genre. It
involved different films I researched and ideas
of narrative etc to build up our groups idea of
what we wanted our teaser trailer to be about.
This piece of media technology I used last year
for my Media, from already using it I think that
now they are better as more knowledge and I use
examples of existing media to show my research.
3. Existing Research
YouTube:
Here I have shown three teaser trailers/trailers of existing films:
.The Conjuring
.The Strangers
.Insidious
I used YouTube to research existing films of our chosen genre in order to
elaborate on our ideas. This included editing, shots, camerawork etc.. For
our actual teaser trailer we used the teaser trailer Insidious mainly, as a
guide to create a good horror film using typical conventions.
4. Research
Pearl And Dean:
Thinkbox:
I have found this information using secondary data from the website
‘Pearl and Dean’.Looking into target audience I have to choose films in
the horror/thriller genre to research about in order to give me valid
information. I have decided to start of with the film 'Insidious' this is
because we have used this film for ideas in our trailer. However, they
only have got comparable information for the audience, this data is
from the film ‘Haunting in Connecticut’. It is still the same type of
genre we are using, therefore this information was still useful.
This is another use of media
technology that I used to
construct genre research of
horrors. This website
allowed me to gain secondary
data to find how people
watch films and trailers.
SurveyMonkey:
This is how my group gained
primary data. There is media
technology called
‘SurveyMonkey’ where a
variety of questions can be
asked to a wide audience.
5. Google Search Engine Google search was used a lot for researching
images of posters and magazines. This was so
we were able to follow conventions of both of
these products so we made ours as similar as
we could so it was the best quality we could do.
Here is the examples I looked at of posters, they are all
Empire as my group and I decided to choose this existing
magazine to use as it targeted the audience we were.
I also used Google docs
quite a lot. This is an
example of when I used it
to create the film
schedule. We used this
while filming to show
what the main shots we
had to get for our teaser
trailer.
6. We filmed using a Canon 550D, we also had use of a tripod, moving tripod, steady
camera holder and camera handle. This was all used so we were able to get as many
different shots as we could and have a variety of them. We also had a manual focus that
helped us focus on different points of our shots. This came in handy when we took
Digital Camera Equipment
7. Construction
Final Cut Pro X is the the main use of media
technology I used when me and my group
constructed and made our teaser trailer ‘The
Follower’. I found this use of software very easy
to use this year as last year I used it and think it
gave me basic knowledge of the programme to
extend my use of tools this year. We had to rely
on post production a lot for the lighting of the
shots as didn’t have the light equipment we
needed when filming.
This is as shown when using the range on sound
to make it fit the shots and also animation in the
editing.
Editing
This is the producing of the animation we
used for our teaser trailer, we used this for a
shot of the masked character hiding behind
the door. At the beginning before we used
animations for this scene it was only the
colour that had been edited, we have
zoomed in at the masked character behind
the door as it was a plain shot to start with,
with hardly any movement. The zoom into
this particular character will grab the
audience's attention to this particular
action of him hiding.
Sound
My group got most of the music we used from
Final Cut Pro X itself. It had eerie music which
best suited our teaser trailer.

8. Photoshop and Illustrator
Construction:
The software Photoshop and Illustrator was the media technology we used in producing both the poster and magazine
cover for our film ‘The Following’. The photoshop allowed us to sharpen and edit backgrounds and pictures, illustrator
allowed us to add Text which was particular in the credits for the poster. This included directors, ratings and release
date.
These two pictures are of my group's magazine
cover and poster, these are showing the
process of each one using both Illustrator and
Photoshop.
9. YouTube
Help Videos:
I referred back to YouTube when creating my three products.
This is because of just getting some ideas from existing teaser
trailers but also to get some help to be able to add extra edits to
our teaser trailer.
The top picture shown is ‘How to use animation’ it was an easy
video to follow and it enabled us to add animation to our teaser
trailer.
The second picture is from a video that helped us show how to
create movie poster credits. We know how as someone in our
group already knew but it didn’t seem to be working. This type of
media technology just showed what we needed to do to change it.
10. Mahara Mahara is the most used media
technology throughout my task
of making three products: Teaser
trailer, poster and magazine
cover. All research, planning,
evaluations etc.. have been put
on this online application.This is
what has all my work to get
marked on for my coursework.
11. YouTube
I used YouTube to upload both my rough cut and
final teaser trailer of ‘The Following’. This video is
the final teaser trailer that was uploaded to YouTube
to be marked.
This website also gave my group final comments of
all 3 products that we created.
12. Evaluation
Question 1.
For Question 1 in my evaluation I have used Emaze, this is my
favourite one as it is easy to use and can fit in as much
information as you want.
Question 2.
Question 2 I used Powtoon, it is a slightly more
complicated website but the layout is very creative.
Question 3.
On this question I used Prezi, it is an easy powerpoint maker to use and I think
I have showed the similarities to my products through the colour and font.
However, I think that too much information on this question has made it a bit
too crowded.
Question 4.
This is the final powerpoint for my evaluation. I created
it on google slideshow then uploaded it to slideshare.
