Pre-CalculusMs. ReevesRM # 402
Goal of PreCal Pre-Calculus will extend topics previously covered in Algebra and Geometry. The course will take an analytic view of the structures of mathematics through the study of functions and the properties of limits and continuity. Trigonometry topics will be covered in the first semester of this course. Upon completion of this course, students will be prepared to enroll in Calculus.
Supplies 3 Ring Binder (Specifically for PreCal) Dividers (Calendar, Notes, Daily Assignments, and Quiz/Test) 3-5 Subject Spiral (Notes) Notebook Paper (Daily Assignments) Pencils (Your work will not be accepted unless completed in pencil) Markers or Highlighters Graph Paper Roll of Paper Towels (For the classroom)
Grades I do not give grades! You earn your grade in my class by doing your homework and being prepared for quizzes and tests. Your grade is calculated by: 25% Homework Average 25% Quiz Average 50% Test Average Regular Class – Maximum grade is a 100. Honors Class – Maximum grade is a 105. You earn 5 bonus points each six weeks for being an honors student.
Rules Be Respectful: of the teachers’ right to teach and the students’ right to learn. Be Responsible: of yourself and your possessions. No Food or Drink: in the halls or classroom. Follow all School Rules: as stated in the student handbook.
Procedures Before the tardy bell rings: have your pencil sharpened and be in your seat. During the first five minutes of class: Homework will be checked for completion and a homework quiz will be given to check for understanding of previous material. While Ms. Reeves is teaching: pay attention, take accurate notes, ask questions about things you do not understand, and do not disrupt the class. While working in class: work independently and ask questions about things you do not understand.
Policies Absent work must be picked up immediately upon the students’ return. Students are given the same number of days to complete the assignment as the number of days they were absent. Cheating on homework, quizzes or tests will not be tolerated. Students will receive a zero and will not be able to redo any assignment that was plagiarized. Graphing calculators are used in the classroom periodically. They are not to be taken from the room for any reason. If a student damages a calculator, they will be responsible for its replacement.
Late work will only be accepted one day after the due date for a maximum of 70%. Students will be given two restroom/hall passes each six weeks. Progress reports will be sent home with the student at the end of the third week of every six-weeks. If the progress report is returned on time with a parent/guardian signature, the student will receive bonus points.
If a student missed a test due to an absence, the student must come in to makeup the test before or after school within two days of the absence. If a student made lower than a 70 on a test, he/she may do corrections and take a retest for up to 70%. The corrections and retest must be completed within one week of the test being returned.
Discipline Any student that disrupts the classroom will first be given a verbal warning. If the student continues to disrupt, an after-school detention will be assigned and your parents will be contacted. Further disruptions will result in more detentions or referral to the principal’s office.
Tutoring Math Lab is open on Monday and Wednesday afternoons in Room 402 from 4 PM to 6 PM. I am available for extra help before school at 7:45 AM and after school until 4:00 PM.
