Like many companies, IBM has learned about enterprise mobility by just doing it. Chris Pepin has a unique perspective on this odyssey. He was part of the IBM Office of the CIO when smart phones first began making their way into the company. As IBMers found increasingly innovative ways to harness their power, Chris helped fashion the policies and management strategies to empower mobile device users while still keeping them secure and manageable. Today, thousands of IBMers use smart phones and tablet's for everything from customer support to sales force automation. Mobility maps perfectly to the IBM's goal of creating an enterprise in which people can access the information they need at any time and from any location. The vision of "Information at Your Fingertips" that Bill Gates laid out more than 20 years ago has finally been realized. Companies that execute quickly will gain significant advantage. In this presentation, Chris describes the early challenges IBM faced with the influx of mobile devices and how it crafted strategies to smoothly incorporate them into the organization. He also discusses the future of mobility and how it will transform jobs and organizations.
