THE LAWS of the state.
The executive branch of government has
many departments.
For example this branch deals with
highway safety and protecting
natural resources.

Legislative Branch
The job of the legislative branch of state
government is to make the laws. A bill is an
idea for a law.
This branch has two parts: the Senate and
the House of Representatives. Together
these two groups are called the General
Assembly.

The job of the judicial branch of
government is to interpret the law.
This means this branch makes decisions
about the law and decides if laws go

branch, and contains Ohio’s laws.
The seven judges of the Supreme Court are at
the head of the judicial branch.
The highest court in Ohio is the Supreme
Court.
All other courts and judges in Ohio are also
part of the judicial branch of government.
