1. Detailed Project Outline and Checklist:
The Assignment:
Pretend that you are a news reporter living in the town of Maycomb in the book To
Kill a Mockingbird. Create a NEWSLETTER for the citizens of Maycomb reporting
on the news in town and the rest of the world at that time.
Details:
1. “To Kill a Mockingbird” Article: Write a 2-3 paragraph article about an
important event in the book. Report this event in your newsletter as if you
are telling the citizens about what happened for the first time.
2. “Real News” Article: Write a 2-3 paragraph article about an important
event that occurred in the world during the time To Kill a Mockingbird took
place (1930’s).
Write this article using at least 2-3 sources that you have researched.
Your Checklist for what to do:
 You must research at least 2-3 DIFFERENT sources for your “Real News
Article”.
 You must turn in at least 2 NOTE CARDS from two different sources and
a WORKS CITED page listing at least 2 different sources- use
Noodletools.com.
 You must paraphrase the information you have researched for your
article- and use quotation marks (“ “) for information that your are
copying directly off of someone else writing. You should give credit
where credit is due.
 You must write your articles (IN YOUR OWN WORDS) in your
newsletter and add pictures/graphics to fill up any empty spaces.
What you’re turning in:
 One Works Cited Page (with at least 2 different sources listed.)
 One Notecards/Notes page (with at least 2 notecards from different
sources.)
 One Newsletter (completed using Publisher.)
 One Rubric (with your name on it.)
