Learning Management Systems (LMS) managed by the Computer Centre 1998 – WebCT 1.0 in a decade, WebCT version 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 2008 – WebCT 8  = Blackboard learning system Vista 8 Enterprise
LMS managed by other departments (1) 2001 – ILN (Interactive Learning Network) built by the Centre for IT in Education (CITE) use by the Faculty of Education and some departments 1999-2001 – SOUL (HKU SPACE Online Universal Learning) built & use by HKU SPACE
LMS managed by other departments (2) 1998 – FIT (Foundations to IT) e-learning system built by the Department of Computer Science for students in FIT courses & IT Proficiency tests 2006 – OSF (Open Source Portfolio), part of Sakai for students building e-Portfolio in some English Centre courses  Some other systems managed by departments or instructors e.g. Moodle (including earlier versions)
LMS support activities provided by Computer Centre Manage WebCT infrastructure, application, interfaces, technical problems auto-creation of student accounts Provide training regular basic & advanced courses  at departments on request Help Desk (staff and students)
LMS support activities not provided by Computer Centre More advanced, in-depth LMS courses Better central administration Tutorial group registration Upload of course materials Integration of plagiarism tools Integration of social networking tools Customisation and enhancement Instructional Design & Development
Current & Near Future e-learning everywhere More WiFi access points on campus Over 850 installed 1,300 being installed Residential halls covered WiFi in town and eduroam institutions Major LMS upcoming: Blackboard 9  Moodle 2
